We stayed for two nights in wink hostel. It was clean and okay, but nothing special. We didnt't like the seperated bathrooms with their gym atmosphere. Furthermore the hostel was impersonal. Staff tried to be helpful, but sometimes didn't know the sourroundings so well. For example when asked for restaurant tipps in the area they recommended Mc Donalds.

Hi fraujasmin, We are a little shocked and have quickly canvassed round all staff to check on your McDonald point. What I am hearing was one guest had enquired about food availability well past 11 pm recently (not July 2014 as you stated which was quite long ago!). At that late hour, there were limited options, and my colleague on... More

This was our third stay at this hostel and we love it. It's central china town, an easy mrt from the airport, really clean and the hosts are friendly. We have booked a cheaper hotel in Singapore before and had bed bugs, if you prioritise cleanliness, Wink is much much better than a hotel even though the facilities are shared.... More

Hi pa_wam, If I read your posting correctly, you stayed with us 10-11 months ago... Thanks for your kind comments after all this time! Very glad you found us a decent place to stay! We pioneered the doubles-pods in a dormitory setting (first anywhere as far as we know!). This has taken off well and quite a few other hostels... More

Good beds, nice individual pod space, friendly host, very good discount tickets to popular tourist attractions (highly recommend purchasing them here), clean, bathrooms stay fairly clean during "peak" hours, great location, you meet cool people, cozy little areas to chill out in (reminded me of a trendy cafe). The slight things that bothered me were temperature (a bit too warm... More

Hi ShalomAlecheim, Thanks for the kind and detailed commentary! The Kitchenette and corridors can get a little warm in tropical Singapore! We deliberately chose not to air-conditioned these places (other areas air-conditioned) to facilitate airflow and ventilation. We have had 2 rounds of surveys and whilst there were views otherwise, most guests tend to support not having the entire place... More

Stayed in a female dorm for four nights. The hostel is clean and very quiet. The bathrooms were on a different floor but I didn't find that a problem. There were enough showers so there was never waiting in a line , not even when the hostel was full in the beginning of my stay. The breakfast was very basic;... More

Hi MiiFinland, We enjoyed hosting you and thanks very much for your stay! Great that you highlighted the point about bathrooms being on a different floor. We occupy 2 floors of this Chinatown heritage historical conserved shophouse. While it is quaint and architecturally interesting (we love it!), such buildings impose constraints on where to place pipings, floorload, etc and we... More

Hi Nankaaa, Thanks for the chance to host you! We get quite a few group stays or family bookings and understand your needs are different from individual guests. Glad you had a good stay. We have learnt a lot from group and longer stay bookings and have quite different offerings to make such stays more comfortable. We appreciate your kind... More

Warm welcoming in a very great location. Clean hostel room and wash room; attentive service. On the constructive comments: Breakfast can be improved by serving better coffee, bread and quantity of fruits.

Hi Jacques, Thanks for your kind comments! We are in fact in the middle of re-looking at our breakfast menu, and your feedback is timely and appreciated. Longer staying or repeat guests may have noticed that we are experimenting with fruit juices currently. We are also varying our fruits selection, recently introducing oranges to substitute pears for example. Quantity should... More

The location is really central. I could walk to downtown in less than 10 minutes. Next door are China town restaurants (cheap) and mcdonalds. Also a mall is there with even more restaurants and lots of shops. But be careful buying things in china town, shop owners might wanna get all your money. Rather go to a shop called "daiso"... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Chinatown is a classic combination of colorful sights, enticing smells, and sometimes startling sounds. The precinct is unique, however, in its blending of religions and cultures. A Hindu temple, an Islamic mosque, and a Chinese Buddhist temple sit almost side by side. This sense of cultural harmony continues as you venture just outside of Chinatown to the nightlife areas of Club Street and Duxton Hill. There you’ll mingle with Singapore’s multicultural residents at the modern bars and restaurants dotting the bustling streets. An afternoon in and around Chinatown will leave you culturally enlightened, well fed, and loaded with souvenirs. In the evening, reward yourself with a well-deserved cocktail as the locals come out to play.
