I was planning to write a review along the lines of "nothing special but good enough for an airport layover" until I went to take a shower and ... there was no soap. And there was no soap available at the front desk. Note to management: providing little travel bars of soap would cost you less than 10 cents per... More

I had an overnight in Singapore, one option was to stay in an airport hotel - which would have been convenient, or find a hotel in the the city and endure an earlier start while already jet-lagged. Le Peranakan was a compromise. It's not always good to compromise. The rooms here are small and 'basic', and the one I was... More

First the good points..only a few minutes from the airport, and about halfway between airport and city. A few decent bars and restaurants nearby. Comfortable bed and the aircon and shower work well. The guy who cleans the rooms is very polite and friendly. Nuff respect to him.. The bad points..really tiny rooms with no window. When I say tiny... More

Small room but enough for one person at SGD70/night didn't bother me at all as i was there on a business trip. The hotel is nicely location around 10 mins from Changi Airport where you can take a bus to the location for only SGD 9/person. It's situated near a lot of famous eateries, bars, and even a coffee cafe... More

Disappointing is the thing that most needs to be said. For $100 anywhere in the world I expect more than a poorly maintained small mouldy windowless shoebox. In the last 4 nights due to strange circumstances I have stayed in four reasonably low budget hotels in Singapore. This was by far the most dissapointing. I booked online and there was... More

This hotel was very disappointing for me. The website says it is a boutique hotel and affordable. I honestly think you could find a better hotel for the same price. It is also far from a boutique hotel but more closely to a backpackers hotel. The room we got was really small without any window or any space to move... More

I booked this hotel for my friends who visited Singapore for the first time. It was supposed to be a boutique hotel but we were disappointed when entering the room. It looked very ordinary like a really budget backpacker private room. The twin beds looked old and were not neatly presented. However, they staffs were nice and polite and they... More

Alex is very helpful, indispensable for a hotel like this, with his informations (all turned out to be real), his friendliness, with his customer-orientation on a high level, and managing very well the perfect distance between customer and staff. A pearl. Rosa is very useful as well, she helps even in her spare time when guests arrive and new staff... More

Le Peranakan is a no-frills hotel-just a bed, bathroom, and TV. But it is clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Also, it's very convenient, being fairly close to the airport, and you're really spoiled for choice when it comes to nearby restaurants. And, at only $50 USD per night, it really is a great value.

After specifically booking a hotel bar Clarke Quay as we were only there for a quick stopover we were transferred to Le Peranakan, which unfortunately is way out of town. We weren't too happy about not even receiving an email to let us know of this. Anyhow, we were greeted by a friendly Indian man who was extremely helpful. The... More

Staying in Joo Chiat

Neighborhood Profile
Joo Chiat
The Joo Chiat area is the traditional home of Peranakan culture in Singapore, an ethnic group descending from the blending of Chinese and Malay families in the 15th century. The neighborhood is packed with colorful shops, local characters, and quiet charm. The main streets overflow with diners enjoying katong laksa, the signature Peranakan spicy noodle soup. Signs of youthful entrepreneurship are visible as well, with modern cafes, bars, and shops abounding. Visit Joo Chiat to take a break from the big city sights and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a laid-back and local vibe.
