the biggest room i've ever stayed in singapore. stayed in a family room, with my husband and kids (1 toddler, 2 twins babies), the toddler love to run around. the beds were comfy enough. clean room next to the pool. we love it. quite walk from mrt station but it's fine. so many eateries around, mall nearby, market also near.

The hotel is situated in a very vibrant neighbourhood, full of good food and shops. The location of the hotel is also good as is between downtown and the airport. The lobby looks OK and the receptionists are friendly and helpful, but the rooms despite being spacious are dirty, the bathroom is the last place you would like to take... More

We stayed here for a week at the beginning of October in a double room over looking the pool. The room was quite large with a comfortable king size bed flat screen TV and a fridge. The bathroom had a bath with a shower over it. The room was clean at a glance, but the cupboards had a coating of... More

I have been to this hotel. It is one of the cheapest hotels in Singapore with a good location and okaish rooms. However, they are so money oriented, the don't care about customer satisfaction as much as money. I had a problem with them, I wanted to cancel my room as my trip changed and I was ready to pay... Have stayed over a year ago and just recently spent 4 days there again. If only they just spent a little money fixing up a few things this Hotel would be great value for money! Okay we stayed in room 408 in a family room. On first checking into the room , previous occupants had left their empty food containers... More

This was our second stay at Hotel 81 Tristar (as a family of 4), once again staying in a family room. The family rooms are large ! Plenty of room for a king size bed (tho a shorter version), fixed single and a roller-bed. And there is still more than ample room to not feel cramped. Fast wifi, great swimming... More

In it day the Tristar must have been a Grand Hotel in Singapore. However that was many years ago and now its part of the 81 chain. Thats not all bad however. I have stayed there many times. 1) Large rooms but old and not well equipped 2) Large beds but no comfy cosy pillows or quilt. 3) Free Wifi... More

Staying in Joo Chiat

Neighborhood Profile
Joo Chiat
The Joo Chiat area is the traditional home of Peranakan culture in Singapore, an ethnic group descending from the blending of Chinese and Malay families in the 15th century. The neighborhood is packed with colorful shops, local characters, and quiet charm. The main streets overflow with diners enjoying katong laksa, the signature Peranakan spicy noodle soup. Signs of youthful entrepreneurship are visible as well, with modern cafes, bars, and shops abounding. Visit Joo Chiat to take a break from the big city sights and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a laid-back and local vibe.
