Area around the hotel is very much a Malay/Muslim area; Muslim travelers would be spoilt for choice when looking for food. Near to a mosque too. The MRT train station is just walking distance away. The swimming pool was unexpected in such a lowly rated hotel but gives a welcome respite to those who are weary from all the shopping... More

This hotel is at a good location, near to Paya Lebar MRT, bus stop and One KM mall. You will get market and food courts and resturants all in walking distance. The best part of the hotel is rooms are huge and clean too unlike other 81 hotels. They have a big swimming pool on 3rd floor which is open... More

The hotel is convenient from the airport and walkable to the MRT or bus. Also adjacent to a small open air place with food stalls and outside seats. Across the street is a local market with loads of food places and other shopping, and a supermarket around the corner. The rooms are spacious and clean, tho the bathrooms are in... More

The hotel was nice and the location as well. It was 10mins away from the airport and there's so many food to eat since there are nearby food market open 24hrs. The room we stayed was so clean and huge!! They have swimming pool (3rd Flr) no need to pay! Free wifi, towels, coffee, milk tea, and 4 water bottles.... More

This is my first review for the 81 hotel chain, which are usually size limited and purely basic accommodation. Tristar comes with a pool on the 3rd floor. This will be pretty basic and adequate for unchoosy travellers, considering the value for money. Location is great since Geylang Serai market is nearby and selling great food, while next to Tristar... More

Was in Singapore in early Dec 2014 for business trip. As it was also school holidays back home, decided to bring the family along for sightseeing on weekend. We were there on Thursday till Sunday. Singapore hotels are best known for its small and compact yet expensive hotel rooms. As I was travelling with the family of four and the... More

Good clean standard hotel room at budget prices -- nothing to brag about, but it was clean and neat. Likewise there is nothing to complain about either. WiFi worked, well, but each of us were given a separate username and password. Very late check-in (1am) due to a late flight, but the front desk was open and expecting us.

Was there for 4 days this month. Don't be bothered about the reception because they will not be bothered about you. Take your keys and enjoy. Rooms good, Location Very good, Eateries and 24 hours shops make this place more worth.

We arrived around 9am, but were offered early check in for extra S$20.. Room was quite big, with bath tub, hot water, big TV and nice soft bed... Swimming pool - cool and almost no guests around the pool whole day!!! But even in hotel description was mentioned about FREE WiFi - there was no connection in the room, lobby... More

Room was OK but really not clean. There were spiderwebs behind the doors & mould in the shower. The area around the shops was fine, lots of great eateries -typical singapore. But this hotel doesn't live up to the advertised standard.

Staying in Joo Chiat

Neighborhood Profile
Joo Chiat
The Joo Chiat area is the traditional home of Peranakan culture in Singapore, an ethnic group descending from the blending of Chinese and Malay families in the 15th century. The neighborhood is packed with colorful shops, local characters, and quiet charm. The main streets overflow with diners enjoying katong laksa, the signature Peranakan spicy noodle soup. Signs of youthful entrepreneurship are visible as well, with modern cafes, bars, and shops abounding. Visit Joo Chiat to take a break from the big city sights and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a laid-back and local vibe.
