I spent three nights at the Gran Mahakam and grew to like the cozy cocoon away from the smog, noise and congestion that is Jakarta. The Gran Mahakam hotel is rated 41/2 stars. It is the only hotel in Jakarta with European ambiance, lovely in every detail, smaller than the new, huge 5 star places and more intimate. Hotel looks pleasant and european from the outside. Inside all marble, beautiful flower arrangements, small balconies etc etc. Staff very helpful. Very disappointing ! Tiny rooms, average service, cleanliness to be improved... The building looks very nice from the outside, but once you're inside it's a whole different story : old school decor, cheap equipment, little facilities. more
