The rooms are nicely decorated and it is surprisingly quiet for its central location. Fine for a short stay but lacks the Balinese warmth I found elsewhere. Given that it does not have a pool, it's certainly one of the more expensive homestays.

There is only one place for me in Ubud to stay and that is at Mai Malu. For me it was fate when I first entered to the homestay of Putu and her family. I immediately felt home and the good spirits of this place are obvious. You enter and you find home and peace in the middle of Ubud... More

Mai Malu was recommended by a friend so I knew it would be a good place to stay. What I didn't expect was the warmth and friendliness that surrounds it mostly coming from 'mama' Putu who manages the homestay and all guest needs. I stayed 1 week then left for a change and within 24 hrs I was back with... More

We stayed there in April and can generally concur with previous reviews. We booked one of the new upper level rooms but were given a standard ground level room on arrival despite confirmation several times by email. This was quite disappointing but we stayed as we had nowhere else to go at the time. We found both the bedroom and... More

Mai Malu, is located between the main two streets, so it is in a great location, near the main Monkey forest st, were you find all the savvy shops and restaurants. The homestay, is also located near a local warang, which serves up excellent food and very good price. The rooms at the homestay are clean, have hot water, fans... More

Great homestay right in centre of Ubud on Jl Gootama, surrounded by wayungs, bars and shops but within a family compound so blocks out the streets outside. Friendly family and a good breakfast. I didn't want to leave. Rooms are 100,000 or 200,000rp depending on size etc. All very new, comfy beds, decent shower, free wifi.

Mai Malu is just of the busy streets of Ubud, yet very quiet and relaxing. The rooms are surrounded by a tropical Balinese garden, very clean with a really good vibe. The owner and her family is incrediblie friendly. Descent wifi and tasty breakfast included in the low prices. Just outside there are several great shops, local restaurants and internet... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Operated by Pak Putu and his family since 2010, this home stay is situated in the middle of Ubud and on one of the nicest and most central streets in the area - Jl. Gootama. It is so easy to escape from the busy and noisy street life and relax in this family who run an 11-room home stay, which is quiet, comfortable and very well priced. With a setting featuring verdant gardens, beautiful family temple, lava rock walls, koi pond and singing birds, the eleven rooms at Mai Malu are all clean and spacious with porches that look into a central courtyard and communal bale area. Operated by Pak Putu and his family since 2010.Right outside on the street are two very delicious restaurants, Devilicious and Melting Wok (who are well known for their fresh curries) while down the road are tailors, laundry services, more restaurants, amenity shops, the Ubud main market and much more. ... more   less
