The location is excellent. 15 minutes walk to the Potala Palace and just few meters to the Jokhang Temple and markets. Some monasteries are quite close as well. The breakfast was just ok. A mix of Tibetan-Chinese dishes as well as some international ones. The room was a bit cold but the air-con helped to keep it warm. Hot water... More

We stayed there for 3 nights. The room was very cold all the time. We need up getting a portable heater in our room! The carpets are very very dirty (I normally can tolerate it but this one was really bad). The front desk staff is Chinese and can't speak English. The beds are very hard. The internet is very... Booked as part of a tour through a Lhasa based Tour company this hotel was somewhat of a disappointment. While the staff were friendly & helpful the Hotel itself was rather run down and grubby and the corridors a bit dark. The carpet in our room was very dirty however all other aspects of the room particularly the bathroom were... More

Thangka Hotel is not the 4 stars hotel that you expects, far from it. But it's very near to the Jongka temple and food and shopping area. The hotel is as clean as it can be what is expected in Tibet. The breakfast is OK with limited variety of food. Would recommend to anyone who do not expect the same... More

The location of this hotel is the best, right in the middle of old town, and it goes downhill from there. The buffet breakfast was less than average, the rooms 70' s holiday inn style, no door on the bathroom and the thing l found the worst it bills itself as a nonsmoking hotel and doesn't enforce any smoking rules, so basicly a... Excellent location in walking distance to the Johkang Temple and the Barkhor. Several restaurants are located nearby with English menus and average food (we liked the vegetarian momos in the Tibetan Steak House). The hotel could be nice if they would simply replace the old grey wallpaper in the hallways. We had room 8266 (second floor end) with traditional Tibetan... More

Location is excellent and just minutes walk from Bakhor Street and Jokhang temple. Room is very good size. Furnishing is good but start to show sign of getting run down. Breakfast was average. The TV only has 1 English channel and this could be standard in all hotels in Tibet. It will be hard if there is important international events... More

This is our second trip to Tibet and we wanted to stay close by to the Johkang Temple. The Thangka hotel exceeded our expectations in terms of value for the location and cleanness of the rooms. The American/Tibetan/Chinese style breakfast buffet was great in the morning before the start of the day. Although they only have wifi in the lobby,... More

The Thangka is located just a block from Bharkor Square and the Jokhang Temple, the most revered of all destinations for Tibetan Buddhists. One of the best views of Lhasa is from the open roof of the temple, where one may see the famous Potala Palace some distance away, as well as the multitude of pilgrims circumambulating and pronating themselves...
