Perfect location in the old town near the Barkhor. An old house nicely updated and with many traditional touches. My husband and I stayed there for 4 nights last April and we really loved it. Yes, it can be a bit cold and the water in the shower takes a while to warm up but we did not come to... More

Stayed here on our last night in Tibet. We chose here because we were intrigued by the traditional decor. The guesthouse was hidden in the alley way kinda hard to find. The hotel has 4 stories with roof top restaurant but no elevator. Staff were friendly and helpful. Unit heater in the room is ok. Clean and pretty but if... More

No heat in the hotel. Do not stay here if it is cold outside. You have to wear all your clothes to bed. The rooms are by stairs only. No big deal , normally. But just having arrived in Lhasa the altitude made four flight seems like Mt Everest.

Not sure if it was because we were at 'end' of season but this place was very unimpressive. Traditional buildings on their own do not make a good hotel. This place was a bit of a disaster. Room was very tatty, shower barely worked, very cold rooms, a heater was eventually supplied but rarely seemed to work. Beds were very hard... More

It is a traditional designed and the feeling to me was great. It has four levels high and without lifts. I loved the bed with traditional Tibet hanging beads. The feeling I had like I was a Princess or Huang Shanghai (King). My room was at fourth floor facing directly at Potala Palace. I look at it almost every moment.

After reading reviews online, we figured this former home of a wealthy Nepalese would suit us well. So we were annoyed to find that our tour operator instead had booked us into the sister property, the House of Shambhala, where our room smelled of sewer gas, and flimsy curtains failed to block out the exterior night light. The next day we... I can't imagine staying anywhere else. Except for the altitude and amazingly clear skies, you could easily, and disappointingly, mistake parts of Lhasa for a typical modern Chinese city. For us it was all about being immersed in the unique culture and atmosphere of Tibet. At Shambala Palace we felt we had truly arrived. Sure it was a pricey boutique... More

We liked what we saw on the website and and booked not just the hotel but our entire tour while in Tibet. Jigme was our coordinator and did an awesome job of getting our permits to us in China and arranging our tour, including an impromptu visit to a festival out of town. He was an amazing host and would... More

Shambhala Palace was good. The rooms were decorated well and the staff was very friendly and a decent breakfast. They even do cheap laundry! The only downside was the hot water which took ages to turn on and the noise because of the location but I'd go again!

My sister, niece, and I enjoy three nights at this beautiful hotel. The staff are so accommodating and kind. They are also so honest! I left my rings behind and didn't notice until a few days later. I didn't give much hope to getting them back but once I emailed the front desk they responded immediately and said they would... More
