If you want a bit of an idea of what it would be like living in a Tibetan building this is an introduction. The rooms are a reasonable size and decorated a little like the monasteries. Staff were friendly and helpful, WiFi was fine and the position is great for the old city. Breakfast is limited but adequate. Bring your... More

Having seen so many beautiful photos of Tibet and Lhasa, it was a bit disheartening to see how much Lhasa is starting to become: like every other large, tourist-friendly yet industrial places in China. For people like myself who prefer to experience the old-world charm expected from Tibet, there's no better place to call your temporary home than Shambhala Palace,... More

we stayed at this hotel following a stay in the yak hotel. This hotel has a strong Tibetan character with nicely decorated rooms. It's very nice to stay somewhere with a local feel. The hotel can be hard to find at first as it is within a maze of small streets in the old part of town.

We stayed here in the summer and loved it. The rooftop deck has an amazing view of the whole city, the incense burning everywhere, jewels in the walls and bright colors everywhere. The artwork around the hotel is really cool. You feel like you are in an old tibetan lodge centuries ago. The food we had there was all high... More

I stayed here for 5 nights in December. The hotel itself is lovely - nestled in the heart of the Barkhor (old town), beautiful Tibetan-style rooms arranged around a courtyard, incense burning every morning, and friendly, helpful staff. I thought the bed was fine, too. The restaurant was closed due to renovations so I can't say anything about that. Breakfast... More

Real authentic but too cold in the room. The heater was not strong enough to heat up the room. The water heater for shower took about 10 minutes to heat up. There was this "burning wood" smell once you stepped out of the room. Don't think it is healthy to breath in such air for long period of time. Preferred... More

Hotel Shambhala Palace The best choice in Lhasa ! The hotel is in a very nice Tibetan style but with a good level of comfort. It is perfectly located in the center of the old Lhasa close to the Jokhang temple and allows to feel the true deep spirit of Lhasa. Excellent

I would really like to give the Shambhala Palace a higher rating. The ambience is wonderful, the staff are very helpful, the restaurant is good, the room is spacious but there is one big flaw. The bed is rock hard. I realise that beds are hard in China however we spent five weeks in China including ten days in Tibet... More

We love this Tibetan renovated old hotel. The colours and furnishings are very authentic. It has hot water-you just have to wait a bit and a good heater for the room. Staff are helpful, and there's a lovely sunny roof where you can catch the sun in the daytime. Definately recommend this

Stayed here for six nights like n total during our stay in Tibet. It was booked by our tour company (Road to Tibet which were fantastic) and were very pleased. Rooms are authentic and definitely not sterile! Space heaters are provided (a must in October) and the hot water does take a while to get to the tap but the... More
