Shambala Palace is a boutique hotel in a former house of an important monk. It is beautifully decorated with interior made by locals, partly handicapped people. The house was traditionally renovated and is only one of a few left in the old quarter where you can experience old architecture. Everything at Shambala Palace is made with a passion for the... This is a very traditional Tibetan style hotel which for foreigners to stay. The staff inside are very friendly n helpful, comfortable room, bed n nice bathroom with heating inside. No matter to mention its convenient location which only a few minutes' walk to Barkhor road. I really like how they decorate the room so I could really embrace the... More

My husband and I stayed 3 nights here at the start of our trip in Tibet. We loved this hotel! The attention to detail is quite remarkable. So much color and vibrant life. The location is fantastic. Within walking distance of many sites, ATM, restaurants, etc. The staff is really friendly and the breakfast each morning was quite satisfying. If... More

This hotel is charming, room and bathroom more than adequate, and reception staff excellent. The breakfast is local and excellent eggs and yogurt. Unfortunately they have closed the restaurant so for dinner you need to go to the sister property a few blocks away. For a local hotel with lots of charm this is the place...no elevator.

I love the color red and that's the overriding theme of most rooms. The beauty of this hotel starts at the door or rather the traditional Tibetan doorway and then the courtyard, prayer flags, the charming wall pieces & finally the very pretty room. It's totally traditional in its design inside the room too, with comfortably large areas for a... More

Wonderful location, so close to the Jokhang Temple, and just great to be so close so you can wander the old city. Rooms are very comfortable and friendly staff. The décor is quite unique, great bathroom lots of instant hot water. From the roof top you have a fantastic view of the Potala Palace, and the surrounding area. Nice quiet... More

If you want to experience a typical Tibet Style hotel, with this particular charm that all these ugly standards hotels in Lhasa dont have (and that are not Tibeten mostly). In addition, the hotel is super central - only a few minutes away from Jokhang Temple, shopping streets, and perfect also for just wondering around in the old city of... More

If you want a bit of an idea of what it would be like living in a Tibetan building this is an introduction. The rooms are a reasonable size and decorated a little like the monasteries. Staff were friendly and helpful, WiFi was fine and the position is great for the old city. Breakfast is limited but adequate. Bring your... More

Having seen so many beautiful photos of Tibet and Lhasa, it was a bit disheartening to see how much Lhasa is starting to become: like every other large, tourist-friendly yet industrial places in China. For people like myself who prefer to experience the old-world charm expected from Tibet, there's no better place to call your temporary home than Shambhala Palace,... More

we stayed at this hotel following a stay in the yak hotel. This hotel has a strong Tibetan character with nicely decorated rooms. It's very nice to stay somewhere with a local feel. The hotel can be hard to find at first as it is within a maze of small streets in the old part of town.
