As others have mentioned decor is cute. Room was good size (#201). Has in room internet. Would have loved better if had been quiter, remember this is an old house and rooms are not sound proof. Some of the quaint sounds where OK like dog barking in the distant- but when someone came in at 2:30am and had to ring... more

We have just got back from Lhasa having stayed in the House of Shambhala. From their web sites, trip advisor members comments and other guides it seemed like the place we wanted to be. If you are expecting western hotel facilities and amenities don't stay here. In fact to be honest you will find it difficult to find anywhere that... more

A nice stay at the House of Shambhala in early Nov. 2007. You can't come to Tibet and expect a five-star experience. However, this location provides a nice, comfortable respite from the loud and crowded streets of Lhasa. The room was good sized (do stay on the second floor - we were in 202 and it was nice and spacious).... more

We came to this hotel after our stay at Beijing Grand Hyatt. Since I wasn't too pleased with my Beijing experience and I read quite a few review mentioning Beijing Grand Hyatt as the best hotel, I braced myself for my Tibetan experience and really lower my expectation. Our guide mistakenly took us to shangbala hotel. My heart sank when... more

Just back from Tibet I must share my more than bad experience with the House of Shambhala in Lhasa, a hotel which is supposed to be one the better places to stay in Lhasa – and where I had been booked for a total of four nights. To get to assigned room 301 one has to either go out on... more

My son (age 34) and I (age 61) stayed at the House of Shambala for three nights in June. I travel a great deal, have stayed at world class hotels (on business. . . ) and found this hotel to be unique, comfortable and charming. This is an old house that has been lovingly and impeccably restored. Yes, every now... more

We spent three nights at the House of Shambhala in mid-June, and the experience was fantastic. The are two real plusses with this place. The first is the location. Shambhala is located in the heart of the old Tibetan quarter (Barkor), which has an historic Tibetan “look and feel.” In contrast, the Chinese quarter of Lhasa is ugly and not... more

We stayed at the House of Shambhala for 4 night during June 2007. The staff was very helpful and the hotel was nicely decorated. If you enjoy a Tibetan style hotel (owned by an American living in Beijing we were told) and want to stay in the old Tibetan section of Lhasa, then you came to the right place. We... more

We booked the House of Shambhala hoping for a little luxury at the beginning of a two week adventure in Tibet. The rooms were charming and beautifully decorated in traditional Tibetan themes. We also found the staff very helpful, but I am not sure how the hotel assists English speaking guests when the amazing Corrine is not around. The main... more

Great place to rest a weary head. Evening on the rooftop watching the sunset and the snow in the hills while having dinner with good friends was a lovely way to end the day. The hotel is not all that it is stated in the NYTimes review or in the Shanghai article. However - it was pretty great for where... more
