Firstly I’d say booking this is my own fault for wanting a hotel near the Potala Palace and deciding that convenience to walk in the city at night outweighed the need for a good star rated hotel. Well it is near. You can actually see the palace from many rooms, although not an unobstructed view. As a walk its 200 metres to the palace entrance and also to the peoples square directly opposite the palace. The view daytime from the square is simply amazing, at night perhaps even more stunning and this less than 5 mins from your hotel is a bonus. And the city centre of Barkhor Street is only 15 minutes safe walk down a main well lit road. But the hotel?. Listed tourist class but for tourist class for Chinese tourists it seemed. On the front desk no one speaks English which would be a major problem if you arrived without a guide. Also no English spoken in the restaurant and no menu in English. Breakfast is buffet but its all Asian which means noodles, rice, curries, soups etc for breakfast... more
