Great location, lovely ambience, decent food and helpful staff. It is Tibet so not everything works- eg took 3 hours to arrange hot water on first day. Nonetheless a wonderful place to stay and excellent value. more

I've stayed at Dhood Gu many times over the past 4 years. The service and ambience is good. Each room is like a jewel box of Tibetan painting and design. I had an unsurpassed view of the Potala Palace from my room window. You can always request this for a little extra money. It's well worth it. The food is... more
The Ghood Du is well located for all local goings on. Friendly and helpful staff. Moderately clean rooms with good hot water and quite charming overall. We did not eat in the hotel other than breakfast which was very adequate for us. Would not hesitate to stay there again. If you have altitude problems there is no elevator but this... more
We were on a tour of China with Overseas Adventure Travel who booked the room. This tour company tries to include as much 'local color' as they can. So the Dhood Gu was a logical choice. This hotel provided the closest to the 'old ways' of all the hotels we visited in China. So, if you want traditional Tibetan experience,... more
This is a perplexing place. Great location, rooms were fairly comfortable. But it's got a dingy quality to it as well. The lighting is awful, the restaurant feels unclean and the carpeting is old and dirty. And the showers leave a lot to be desired. But...it's Tibet and one can't expect much more than this. Recommended with some caveats. more
My travel agent booked this hotel for us. When we arrived at the hotel the reception staff told us they did not have our reservation and did not have a room for us. Then we got the blank stare, don't say anything, passive resistance treatment, and no offer of help to find alternative accomodation at all. Basically, they took the... more
My husband and I stayed here in July at the beginning of an eco-tour in Tibet. We loved this hotel. I must qualify my four star rating; if you expect Western standards in Tibet, this will not measure up. If you come to Tibet to experience Tibet, then this hotel is fantastic. The four stars are for ambiance, hospitality and... more
great for a bit of traditional Tibetan decor. Inexpensive and a bit run down.Western toilet and nice bath tub/shower. Staff is very friendly and helpfull. We wandered into the buffet the first morning and were not impressed and chose to find our meals elsewhere. Basically, the British breakfast-- toast, cereal, baked or grilled tomatoes and bangers -- and asian food... more
Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in May. I find the room decor interesting but the facilities are old. There is no air con in the room and the man in hat at the counter doesn't care about our complaints. Toilet cannot flush properly. There is no lift in this hotel so if you are staying on the top... more
Hotel stationery printed as Dhood Gu ...... The room was a comfortable size and decorated with Tibetan furniture and decor. Although it's not aging well, the room was kept clean by the staff. Linens are changed upon request, which is not unreasonable. The bathroom was really showing its age. Hot water for showers was available in the morning and at... more
