A variety or rooms are available depending on your budget. There's no room service or anything fancy but the room we had was comfortable, warm and cosy with a great ensuite bathroom. It also had the most comfortable bed we slept on during the whole trip. Great location just across the road from the old quarter. Only problem was hot... more

Our tour company reserved a room for us at the Yak hotel. We were a little bit skeptical at first (we had planned to stay a Eagle land guesthouse but were told no foreigners were allowed at the location). When we looked at the room, we were pleased. It was clean, spacious and the location of the hotel was great... more

The Yak Hotel provides as much as can be expected of a hotel in the "old" (but thoroughly rebuilt) area of Lhasa. The location can't be beat - a five minute walk to the Barkhor market area. If you don't expect too much, you'll be very happy. Our tour company arranged a suite in the refurbished front building, overlooking the... more

Yak Hotel-centrally located 2 1/2 star hotel that is within walking distance of Bar Khor (Bar=central, Khor=circle) St. and Jokhang Temple. Adjacent to the hotel, there is same day laundry service (in by 9am, pickup by 8pm for 15Y for 2 shirts and 1 pant), grocery store (4Y for 1.5L and 2Y for 550ml Nongfu bottled water) and Dunya bar... more

I stayed a week because I was doing research in Lhasa. This was my second trip to Tibet. I thought the hotel was the best Tibet has to offer. My room was comfortable, clean and in a great location. Having a restaurant right next door was great and there's also a travel agency above the restaurant. You can get anywhere... more

For 300 yuan per night in low season, this place is way over priced. It got the Lonely Planet Curse, just like other hotels in the book, prices are almost double of what's listed in the book. more

Stayed at Yak Hotel in Aug 07. Having travelled throughout Tibet I can tell you it was the best hotel I stayed at. Toilet and shower that works! Hard to find elsewhere! Loction is great, just a few minutes from markets and Jokhang and Potala 15 min walk. There are also various resturants in hotel. Staff were very friendly and... more

Stayed at the Yak Hotel in Lhasa for 5 days in May and June 2007. I stayed at the Yak Hotel because I had heard that it was clean, in the older part of Lhasa and because it would have a "hostel" type of atmosphere (e.g. staff and other visitors would be friendly and helpful). The Yak Hotel is clean... more

The Yak's location is great! I had read previous reviews regarding rude staff, but I didn't find this to be particularly true. My magnetic key somehow "unscanned" itself two nights in a row, and it probably would have been nice for the front desk to at least say "sorry about that" A 2 flight walk is much bigger deal in... more

The Yak has a great reputation, but the hotel is changing under new management. The staff at the front desk is about as rude and officious as I have ever encountered! The Yak has a wide range of accommodations, everything from 5 beds-to- a- room dorms with public showers to better rooms in the main building so you should ask... more
