I stayed at this hotel on 3 occasions during a recent trip to Tibet. Initially I was not entirely happy but having travelled elsewhere in the country where accommodation was extremely variable, each time I returned the hotel seemed more and more comfortable. Fathomed the plumbing. Got extra duvets. Wi-fi pretty good. Breakfast disappointing, but at least there were eggs... More

Gangyan Hotel is a good place for the tour groups with nearest access to Barkhor street. Rooms are comfortable with friendly staff inside and they have (vip) block building with 5star Hotel basis. The receptionist were all Tibetan with big big smiles on face

Late review - two nights stayed in this hotel were the best nights during two weeks journey through Tibet, but this is simply because the other places on the road from Nepal to Kailas and Lhasa just could not be called hotel at all. What would be a standard elswhere becomes a luxury in Tibet. Hotel restaurant serves decent Chinese... More

If i compare this hotel to the rest of the world, i would just put average rating. But this is Tibet, a so called 4 star hotel is barely 3 star. So if you stay at 3 star hotel , please expect 2 star quality then. The room is fine, heating is definitely working!! Key criteria to stay during winter.... More

As far as other stays in Tibet have gone, this was the most luxurious. However, we had the room beside reception which was prone to noise from other guest checking in and out at all hours as well as roudy groups having a sing along in the foyer late at night. The breakfast supplied was very good with a great... More

Stayed 2 nights in this hotel. Bed was alittle on the hard side but comfortable for Chinese standards. Room were clean and shower facilities were great. Wifi connection were stable. Outlook of the hotel looks more like hostel with many tibetan flags hanging across the sky to the other side of the building. Hotel lobby is decorated in tibetan style,... More
