Ok, so, before you read the other reviews of this place, google "Chunking Mansions". Know what you're getting into. The building is ancient, built in 1961, has a history of being a firetrap and haven for all types of seedy, less than legal residents, and has a bit of a legendary status among backpackers. The truth to that legend is... More

Entire place is filthy, room is tiny and building is filled with the scum of the Earth. Had a double room booked for us by a friend and needless to say, I don't even want to speak to her again after staying here for two nights. The room is tiny and filthy. There are roaches and flies everywhere. Stayed on... More

The location is horrible, full of touts and lowlifes hanging around. The place is very filthy. The rooms are very inhuman. The pictures of the rooms in the net are no way near reality. I wonder why local authorities allow such a place to operate with below par standards. The people who operate this place give HK a bad name!... More

Booking ChungKing mansions was the worst decision I've ever made when traveling. I was fully prepared for budget accommodation, as I wanted to save money. However, the staff were rude, the rooms are tiny, even by HK standards, they were hot, air conditioning awful, the entire place smells of raw sewage (because the toilets are filthy and don't flush properly.... Arrived late at night and found a line up of people to get into our lift to the hotel. We had booked 2 double beds with private ensuite. We could not fault the cleanliness of bathroom. The mattresses were new and very comfortable. Bring your own towels and bathmats (No shower curtain). Some of the staff's English was not the... More

Simply worst hostel I've ever stayed! 1. Rude and dishonest staff or should I say owner 2. Filthy bathrooms 3. Unsafe location If you will have a problem with the owner, just simply call a police, just like we did when the owner went to our room very late at night and asking for a cash payment on our second... so I am sitting in the reception of Taiwan hotel at 6.50am in the morning, having stayed awake for the whole night. why you ask? well the air con in the room didn't work, which made the tiny four bed room too hot and stuffy to sleep in. when reported to reception, the response I got was "I am just... I would just like to say that staying in Chungking Mansion is ok if you are travelling on a budget. The location is pretty good. There are many touts who want to book you a night in one of their rooms, so it is up to you to check if it is worth it. We booked this room because the... More

Ok, so after reading a few reviews on here I was worried to say the least, however on arrival to the Chungking Mansions I found that the touts, although annoying were easily ignored, just by simply walking past them without even looking at them, no matter how much they try to talk to you, ignorance is the best bet here....
