If your with a tour this is a great place to stay. You can use public transport as there are nearby buses and the metro is about 15-20 mins walk, its not simple though. Taxis are an easier option and not too expensive (get the porter to help as you may get over charged) The hotel itself is of a... More

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a group. The hotel was ok, rooms were comfortable enough, the location could be better though. Whilst close to the hutongs there is no subway nearby and taxis are evidently impossible to get for the hotel making it difficult to get around unless by foot. There is Internet available, but if... Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a Sundowners tour. I stayed in the old wing - and so pleased I did! So many hotels offer the same rather sterile experience these days. This hotel has character and uniqueness. Great location for exploring streets and hutongs, and indulging in Beijing away from the more obvious tourist areas. Short taxi... More

DongFang was a decent place to stay. The room was in good shape and I got the impression that they were trying to keep it nice. The room had a free Ethernet port, but WiFi was an extra charge. The beds, like every hotel in China in which we stayed, were very hard It's in a neighborhood, which is fine,... More

Stayed here as part of EF tours immersion trip. Had my own room and it was clean and quiet! Awesome location near Hutong to experience genuine local Beijing. Loved exploring neighborhood in the evenings. WiFi was good in coffee shop, get the ice cream (30 Yuan). Have to purchase to use WiFi. Breakfast brunch was plentiful.

We asked our tour operator to provide 3* character hotels wherever practical on our 16 day private tour and this was a perfect start to the trip. Located in a residential area of the city away from the hustle and bustle. Originally built in 1918 the older rooms are beautifully furnished with reproduction "antiques" and come complete with all modern... More

This hotel far exceeded my expectations. The room was large, quiet and clean which is all you really need. Whilst the bed was hard by Western standards this is normal in China and the linen was new. There was a flat screen TV with BBC in English, but no wifi and apparently even those that paid reported it did not... More

The upsides include ATM and the somewhat pricey coffee shop. The room was basic and mostly clean. We asked for a third bed and got your basic roll away, which was more comfortable than the bed. Downsides include no WiFi (who doesn't have basic WiFi these days), the elevator took literally 15 mins to pick up, very little English spoken... More

Stayed here as part of Exodus tour but fairly inexpensive when I booked another night online: $61 canadian for a Monday night (no breakfast incl) The good: It was quiet, clean & comfortable. There was a big breakfast buffet but considering how big it was I was amazed how disappointing it was. Lots of chinese food and pastries, only watermelon... More
