Stumbled across this hostel when I knew I had to find somewhere else to stay after finishing a tour. Got a 7 bed dorm for equivalent of about £8 which included breakfast. Very clean room with nice big lockers if you want to secure your luggage whilst you're out and about. Bathroom cleaned daily, there was no shower curtain in... More

From PEK ignore all other means of transport apart from Airport Express. Coasts Y25 ($4). Half an hour gets you to Dongzhimen subway station (walking's ok in BJ, traffic not as scary as Vietnam e.g. - but after marching ho-hum big streets lined by banks and not enough interest to e.g. drop inty a wee cafe - subway is probably... Located in the heart of a busy quarter of the city with the metro (Nanluoguxiang Line 6) just at the end of the little street. I stayed in a Twin room with bathroom, was compact but served well. Nice beds - bit hard - but slept well, hot shower (no towels) and clean. Not the quietest of hostels we had... More

Nothing bad to say about this hostel. Great location on the vibrant and lovely Nanluoguxian Hutong, clean, super comfortable room with clean en-suite toilet, friendly staff, free wifi, free breakfast. I also loved the atmosphere. If going back to Beijing, I would definitely consider returning.

This hostel offers a taste of the real Beijing. We had a twin ensuite room which was basic, clean and comfortable. The staff are all friendly, and many speak good English. We loved being outside in the mornings to watch the locals day starting. I Cannot recall any negatives about this place at all. They even arranged for us to... More

Had a GREAT stay at the Downtown Backpackers. I travelled with my friends in Beijing March 2015. The most important thing is, all the staffs here speak English which is for me is a sigh of relief, because it is very difficult to find people here who speaks English well. We went there from Beijing Capital Airport by Airport Express... More

We opted for this place as we wanted to be in the real hutongs. And we were!!! Step outside and people are just going about their normal day to day business, walking with their children, pushing carts, biking selling wares etc. Its simply fantastic and an excellent depiction of the real china. Lots of restaurants just near by the hostel.... More

Had a very amazing stay at the Downtown Backpackers. I travelled alone in Beijing March 2015, my friends recommended this hostel. From the time I emailed them for reservation, they are already very helpful and accommodating. They will always greet you with a smile. Plus, all of them speaks good english, asking for directions is very easy. Airport transfer is... More

I find often when you read trip advisor reviews most people talk about it being a 'great location' but this was seriously perfect for travellers. It is on such a busy and cool street, with every different food and drink place imaginable. Try the frozen yoghurt place that is tucked down on the left hand side and is an independent... More
