This place is great if a little hard to find, we had a print out of the address in chinese and the taxi driver stil look perplexed. He found the hotel though it is out of the tourist enclave and in the hutong area. You will get an authentic Beijing experience there - great food, beautiful park just down the... More

My friend and I are students and didn't want to spend too much on a hotel. We decided to go for the Shatan Hotel and were positively surprised. The staff at reception could speak basic English which was helpful to ask for directions and both the Bathroom and Room was very clean. The hotel is located within walking distance of... More

We researched this hotel on TA and were not disappointed. It is a clean and comfortable 3 star with a great location and accommodating English (limited) speaking staff. If you want to see the real local flavor of Beijing, stay here. We had room 306 overlooking the street. The first night we paid about $125.00 CA but then I went... More

We booked this hotel because it was good value and we were surprised with the rooms. They were very clean and comfortable, with a fridge, tv, safe and air con, hairdryer, toiletries (no soap!). The bathroom was very good and the room spacious. The only downside was that as there was no window we couldn't gauge what time it was... More

This was my 3rd stay here. I love the fact the hotel is on a back street frequented by locals. Because of that, rooms facing the street can be noisy during the day. Hotel is about a 20 min walk from subway station on Line 6 & 1 block north of the Forbidden City. Lots of local restaurants & stores... More

I have been a guest at Shatan hotel 3 times the past 8 years. 5 years since my last stay. Nothing has happened to the hotel since my last stay, neither negative or positive. I recommend getting the suite as it is extremely reasonably priced. A big room with a large comfortable bed, and an extra living room. The bathroom... More

All basic requirements were met (fridge, good shower, firm enough bed, blackout window curtains, TV, basic level of cleanness, safe, multiple lights, Air-con, minibar with wine). The room decor was a little tired. Soundproofing of the walls wasn't brilliant because phones ringing next door could be heard. Our shower was faulty but was fixed quickly after reporting it with the... More

We stayed here for 10 nights in June, the staff were all friendly and were always at hand for us whenever we needed any help. The hotel also has free wifi, which is a plus, however the catch is that you can only use it in the lobby. Our room was a non-smoking queen bed room on the second floor,... More

This hotel was in good location for us, its within walking distance of a lot of attractions but a bit of a trek to the metro about 20 mins not ideal with luggage. you can walk to the forbidden city and Tian amin square there is also a park very close by which is well worth a visit for the... More

Location is good, we walked every where, close enough to forbidden city etc. Rooms were okay but not the cleanest, carpet had stains on it. Air-conditioning is apparently not room controllable so if they turn it off for the building then tough luck (our room got pretty hot) Staff English is terrible, non existent (same as every where) which made...
