This was my 3rd stay here. I love the fact the hotel is on a back street frequented by locals. Because of that, rooms facing the street can be noisy during the day. Hotel is about a 20 min walk from subway station on Line 6 & 1 block north of the Forbidden City. Lots of local restaurants & stores... More

I have been a guest at Shatan hotel 3 times the past 8 years. 5 years since my last stay. Nothing has happened to the hotel since my last stay, neither negative or positive. I recommend getting the suite as it is extremely reasonably priced. A big room with a large comfortable bed, and an extra living room. The bathroom... More

All basic requirements were met (fridge, good shower, firm enough bed, blackout window curtains, TV, basic level of cleanness, safe, multiple lights, Air-con, minibar with wine). The room decor was a little tired. Soundproofing of the walls wasn't brilliant because phones ringing next door could be heard. Our shower was faulty but was fixed quickly after reporting it with the... More

We stayed here for 10 nights in June, the staff were all friendly and were always at hand for us whenever we needed any help. The hotel also has free wifi, which is a plus, however the catch is that you can only use it in the lobby. Our room was a non-smoking queen bed room on the second floor,... More

This hotel was in good location for us, its within walking distance of a lot of attractions but a bit of a trek to the metro about 20 mins not ideal with luggage. you can walk to the forbidden city and Tian amin square there is also a park very close by which is well worth a visit for the... More

Location is good, we walked every where, close enough to forbidden city etc. Rooms were okay but not the cleanest, carpet had stains on it. Air-conditioning is apparently not room controllable so if they turn it off for the building then tough luck (our room got pretty hot) Staff English is terrible, non existent (same as every where) which made... This is a really good value hotel but the location isn't ideal. The hotel is very clean and the rooms are quite nice for the price. The location is on a market street that does offer some positives: access to food, concession store, and feels safe. The negative is that it's about 20-30min to the subway station and quite a... I stayed for 3 nights in August 2013, I had previously booked (in 2009) for the whole family for 7 nights but due to my Wife being diagnosed with cancer we had to cancel - at that time the Hotel gave us a full refund even thought the booking was non cancellable. Due to that excellent gesture I was determined... More

Stayed at the Shatan hotel which is located in a hutong area in very close proximity to the Forbidden City and many other amenities. (note that the closest entrance from the hotel to the Forbidden City is now closed and is only used for exiting visitors). The hotel was a little difficult to find at first, taking a taxi from... After getting over the hutong smell and location we had a great time at the Shatan. The location is fantastic and really puts you into the China atmosphere. Check out some of the restuarants on the street as well, including a lady that makes an unreal breakfast sandwich for 5 yuan at the end of the street on the same... More
