During a recent stint teaching at a Chinese law school, I had to stay a couple of nights at the Friendship. The Friendship -- whose original purpose was to provide high-quality accommodations to Soviet advisors during the Cold War -- is located in the Haidian District, a suburban district northwest of the Forbidden City and Tienanmen that's an easy ride... Stayed here as part of a tour a couple of years ago. The staff were great could not do enough for you. the rooms were of a good size and well furnished. The food was good traditional Chinese even at breakfast. Although we did work out a way of making beans on toast!! even had peakin duck which is aromatic... More

Attended a meeting in Building 7 for three days. This huge hotel complex was developed by the Govt and operated by the Govt. Has multiple building with different room charges. Stayed in Building 1 which is a good building with good and big clean rooms. Others who stayed in buildings 2 and 4 were not happy especially about bathrooms (toilet... More

I will recommend this hotel to my family, friends, colleagues and relatives. I enjoyed staying here for two weeks. It's a lovely place to stay. The building and rooms were so clean They serve good food and staff were all friendly. I will definitely choose to stay here again when given opportunity to come back to Beijing.

If you are visiting the universities in Beijing, it is the perfect place to stay. Difficult to find a decent restaurant to eat nearby though. Had dinner in the restaurant on the 1st floor of the Grand building named Yashi Restaurant. Decent food and reasonable price but difficult to order, only one person speaks English and there are no photos... More

I stayed here for 5 days in the summer because I was attending a conference at Remnin university. If you are visting the university, the location is good. However, if you want to visit the city, there is no reason to stay there. Although there is a metro close by (5 minutes), it will take about 40 minutes to reach... More

I was there years ago, in what it is now the Grand Building (and it was excellent). This time, I was in building 4, in a business trip. The room was correct and clean, although the furniture and specially the bathroom were quite aged. Good wifi and a/c. Breakfast was only correct. Nice and helpful staff at the main desk... More

My wife and I have stayed in both building #1 (main building facing the highway) as well as building #2 (tucked away near the back of the grounds). The suites in building #1 are fantastic... as good as any hilton or Sheraton suite that we've seen anywhere in the world. They cost about 900rmb a night. We also stayed in... More

We visited the hotel mostly to get a bath, sounds ridiculous but occasionally there is a need to wallow. This hotel is very curious, it is more of a compound than a hotel consisting of several buildings around a central courtyard. The approach is very impressive being an old style Chinese building with the traditional decoration on practically every surface.... More

I stayed in building 2. The bathroom has urine all over the floor and toilet seat and smelt of cigarette smoke. There is no airconditioning in the room but a fan that does not work. The curtains are slashed so the sun beams into the room very early. Bed hard as a rock without mattress cover. The floors were very... More
