Deliberately booked as inexpensive and very different. Courtyard hotel full of bamboos and a tea house based on 19th century Court official's house. Traditional furniture but comfortable. Staff friendly (except reception a bit frosty) Overstaffed restaurant overwhelmed by 8 diners but food good -- although it arrived singly as-cooked. Interesting area with Drum and Bell Towers (Beware the steps and... More

We were a bit concerned when our driver from the airport turned down an alley off a main street and into a hutong. But we were delighted once we entered through the impressive front gates into the Bamboo Garden. This was a great alternative to the Western style hotels in Beijing. Within walking distance to the Bell and Drum Towers.... More

We realy liked the old fashion style in the middle of an old Beijing hutong, the quietness of the place, the garden, the cleanliness of the rooms, the availability of a computer in the room, some foreign TV channels. Close to the Bell and drum towers, you can also walk to great pedestrian shopping street Yandai byway (Yandaixie Jie). Slightly... More

Don't be concerned about the dodgy looking little street it's down... when you turn in you will have a lovely surprise. We were originally going to stay in the Sheraton but asked for something with more of a local flavour and this didn't disappoint. A beautiful hotel built around an old fashioned courtyard garden. The local area is actually quite... More

I selected this hotel based on reviews in Trip advisor. This hotel is very near to Metro station in Beijing and I must say that usage of subway in Beijing is very cheap and convenient. Room size was OK for us. Cleanliness was good too. Only we had problem about WiFi , because connection to their network is based on... More

A very beautiful hotel. A little concerned when the taxi went down a very dodgy looking alley but when he turned into the courtyard, WOW. it is beautiful. The staff are very helpful. The room we had was large and clean. The gardens a delight to walk in. The restaurant is part over a fish pond and has a glass... More

I was blown away when I saw the rooms--very large and comfortable and beautiful decor. Off of the bedroom there was a little seating area by a large window, from which we had great views of the magpies and other birds eating ripe persimmons from the tree in the courtyard. They provided tea and bottled water, so it was very... More

Stayed 2 nights. Wonderful location but the staff and amenities were underwhelming. Rooms were of a good size and décor was truly "local" but comfort was not a primary concern in the décor. Breakfast costs extra and is also a bit underwhelming.

If you are going to China why not experience something different? This hotel delivers. Rooms are large and clean with good bathrooms and really that is all you need. Still, it has lovely gardens and walkways and is an oasis in a very large city. We stayed three nights. Ate only breakfast at this location. They served a variety of... More

We stayed one week in september 2013. The hotel is ideally located in the charming 'Hutang' of Beijing close to the subway. The area is a mix of old style Beijing and 'new-bourgeois-trendy-Shanghai-style' and so very interesting. Rooms are large and clean. Very quiet. Friendly staff. Free transport to airport if you stay a couple of days. Garden is nicely... More
