The very narrow hutong was difficult for our driver to navigate but we were grateful he persevered as lugging suitcases down the crowded lane after a long day would have finished us. The courtyard hotel has all the peace and quiet you need to refresh and relax before venturing out again into the heart of bustling Beijing. It is very... More

A converted double-storey courtyard house set around a picturesque and well-maintained garden. Excellently situated in the heart of old Beijing with immediate access to the hutongs, places of interest and plenty of eateries in the main road. Our quiet, first floor room had a peach tree outside and a view over lawns. Friendly, efficient service and a comfortable Chinese restaurant... More

Down a narrow road (hutong) off a main street, we wondered where we were going. Then we turned into a courtyard of a former merchant's house. It was a struggle to believe that you were in central Beijing, close to the 2nd ring road. There are bamboos, mature trees, koi ponds, waterfalls and birdsong. For all that alone this place... More

We liked the hotel (and the restaurant was really pretty good too same price and standards as many outside). Helpful staff who arranged trips to Great wall, . Lots of Chinese people staying too nice gardens,(but the midges do bite so wear repellent at night). Be careful to go out back via Jingalu and the main road at first as... More

We are a familly with 3 children. We booked two rooms in july 2014 The hotel is far from the center Hutong with 5 levels just near, not cool Room view right in the street; the people passing could look into the room Building works in the hotel all the night, right next to our room; incredible! Breakfast expensive and... More

Stayed here in Beijing leg of 3 city china tour. Booked purposely So as to not be in a corporate hotel or spend too much money, as would be out all day for the 2days... Basic breakfast, rooms are clean, old wooden structural rooms. Do not expect a 5* hotel with facilities. But for a different boutique hotel to just... More

Deliberately booked as inexpensive and very different. Courtyard hotel full of bamboos and a tea house based on 19th century Court official's house. Traditional furniture but comfortable. Staff friendly (except reception a bit frosty) Overstaffed restaurant overwhelmed by 8 diners but food good -- although it arrived singly as-cooked. Interesting area with Drum and Bell Towers (Beware the steps and... More

We were a bit concerned when our driver from the airport turned down an alley off a main street and into a hutong. But we were delighted once we entered through the impressive front gates into the Bamboo Garden. This was a great alternative to the Western style hotels in Beijing. Within walking distance to the Bell and Drum Towers.... More

We realy liked the old fashion style in the middle of an old Beijing hutong, the quietness of the place, the garden, the cleanliness of the rooms, the availability of a computer in the room, some foreign TV channels. Close to the Bell and drum towers, you can also walk to great pedestrian shopping street Yandai byway (Yandaixie Jie). Slightly... More

Don't be concerned about the dodgy looking little street it's down... when you turn in you will have a lovely surprise. We were originally going to stay in the Sheraton but asked for something with more of a local flavour and this didn't disappoint. A beautiful hotel built around an old fashioned courtyard garden. The local area is actually quite... More
