If you want to avoid major chain hotels, this boutique hotel is for you. Set in the oldest area of Beijing, you can experience the daily life of the Hutong residents as they prepare food, play shuttlecock, chat to friends on the street, and if you happen to get lost in the myriad of narrow laneways, your hotel card will... Located in old Beijing, this cosy boutique hotel is perfect for those looking to experience local culture and see how the locals live. Hidden in the 'Hutong' lanes, it may be difficult to find and we had taxi drivers who didn't want to bother looking for the hotel thus making us walk back from the main streets. Some of the... More

I really loved this beautiful hotel in the center of historic Beijing. Everything you like to see in the center is close at hand. The hotel is very nicely furnished and has a shadow art stage in the atrium. You can watch plays twice a week. I ran into one by chance. What a pleasure! The breakfast is European style... More

My wife and I had the great pleasure of staying at the Shadow Art Performance Hotel in the summer of 2014. They offered delicious breakfast, thoughtfully designed spaces and a very courteous staff—all at a fair price. It's located rather close to a train station and is located in a nice community. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We traveled around china for three weeks and stayed in quite a few hotels including 5 star. We liked this one the best. It had a lovely friendly feel and we were very happy and enjoyed our stay immensely and the staff were lovely and helpful. Especially Daisy, Andy and Samantha who i would like to say A HUGE thank... I selected this hotel based on the reviews and was not disappointed. To let you know my mindset coming in, I was searching for an affordable hotel that would give me a sense of the culture of China. Though I love the Marriott, I thought it would be a better experience to select a non-western hotel. I am SO happy... More

The hotel was ok but they should mention those rooms on the 1/F has no window. Because their 1/F is actually the basement. I hate rooms without window and would have go for rooms on the 2nd room if I know. Also, rooms without window would have a lot more cheaper options. It's quite far away from subway and is... More

Great location, fantastic staff (Daisy, John and the butler who left us a funny little note in the room) Breakfast more than adequate and room was small but very clean and comfortable. Charming old town location and great recommendations for places to eat, very helpful booking taxis etc. Great modern/traditional decor with the puppet theatre taking centre stage...we loved the... I was travelling in Beijing with my partner and we really enjoyed our stay in Shichahai Shadow art performance hotel. We arrived early in the morning and even though the check-in starts normally at 2pm, they let us check in already when we arrived and we got the room within 30 minutes of our arrival. Service was really welcoming and... More

finding this hotel, you definitely need a cab driver to take you. Especially at night, it is very hard to find.signage to the place is not that great. The hotel itself is lovely and has a really cool feel, dark and mysterious (playing up the shadow art side of things), during the day time there is a great skylight over... More
