What a wonderful experience. My husband and I traveled to China, our first time, and chose to visit The Great Wall at Mutianyu. We stayed at the Brickyard retreat. We traveled from to Shanghai to Beijing and hoped a driver would meet us at the train station as planned. Our driver was waiting for us as soon as we stepped... More

The Brickyard is very pleasant and a perfect place to stay so you can get to the Great Wall early before the crowds. Worth getting a room that gives a good view of the countryside and the wall in the distance. It's pretty simple - no TV, but that is part of its charm. March is not an ideal time... More

Dear nutsaboutnews, Thank you so much for sharing your experience at the Brickyard. The tag end of winter has its own stark beauty -- but just after you visited the earth came alive and the forsythia, apricots, flowering plums, and lilacs that fill our gardens blossomed. The 5,000 irises in the yoga garden walk are about to come in. No... More

I had a very relaxing stay at Brickyard. The room was comfortable and staff were very kind. It's a peaceful two day run-away from the city. Relative big yard compared with Schoolhouse. Quite nice even just sitting in the yard, enjoying tea and mountain view.

Beijing is wonderful city and full of many things to do, but sometimes one just needs to take a break from city life. The Brickyard Eco Retreat at Mutianyu Great Wall offered just that during the start of the Chinese New Year for me and my husband. We stayed in the deluxe queen room, which looked out to the Great... I had a friend visiting Beijing for the first time. She wanted to see the Great Wall so I thought it would be s different experience if we stayed at the Brickyard and walked to the Wild part of The Wall a doable walk from the School House. We took the shuttle van from the Brickyard has lunch at the... More

We took advantage of the Chinese New Year special price and had a great two night stay at the Brickyard. As other reviewers have said, this is a relaxing sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of Beijing and within a stone's throw of the Wall. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the common areas of the hotel were warm... More

Dear WT030109, Thank you so much for your suggestion about adding children's items to the Lodge menu -- and also thank you for the observation that our team members could have been more accommodating and less rigid when you asked for smaller portions for your child. We stayed in a deluxe queen room for one night and spent the next half day on the Great Wall before returning to Beijing. Our room was clean, bright and minimalist, containing the necessities and nothing more. Initially we wondered to ourselves whether we had overpaid given how simple (albeit comfortable) accommodations were, but all doubts dissipated as time went... More

We spent three nights over Christmas at the Heart's Desire farmhouse. It was wonderfully relaxing, warm and very atmospheric. The wood and stone of the farmhouse made for a very pleasing setting. You could see the Great Wall from the farmhouse and it was inconspicuously situated within a functioning village. There are some terrific walks both to the Great Wall... More

When our son announced plans to visit us in China for Christmas and asked to visit the Great Wall, the Brickyard looked to be a good location. It exceeded expectations! The rooms are simple, but stylish, warm , clean, have great bathrooms and views directly onto the wall. An evening massage (extra -but worth it) dinner at the sister restaurant... More
