Having been travelling for 4 months and stayed in my fair share of ropey hostels I had high hopes for the box courtyard hostel, it didn't disappoint. Having struggled to find the hostel I was guided by phone in scorching conditions and when I turned up obviously quite stressed out I was given a nice piece of watermelon to cool... More

I've stayed here for almost a week and it feels more like a home than a hostel. The people working here are genuinely nice and doing their very best to make your stay in Beijing fantastic. It's clean and the interior is modern but with a lot of old, lovely Chinese furniture. They do their best for you to feel... More

We chose this place based on trip adviser but were still surprised by just how nice it really was when we got there. Our standard double room was lovely, the common space was great and the staff amazing - oh and the incredible shower is the best ever in a hostel and we noted that the dorms had the same... More

The hostel is clean with good location and excellent staff. They even organize free noodles and dumpling session for guests to try their local delicacies and mingle around. The tour to Mutianyu is well-arranged and value for money as compared to other tours. However, some small issues should be taken care of to give guests a better experience. The water... More

First off, I should say that I'd never stayed at a hostel in China as a solo female traveler before and was a bit wary... but Chinese Box far surpassed all of my expectations. Tranquil, immaculately clean and well-appointed, and just about buzzing with good energy, Chinese Box provided a true respite in the midst of bustling Beijing. Joe at... More

This hostel is newly renovated and a great deal. It is located about 10 minutes from the xisi metro station on line 4, and it's easy to get anywhere. I always felt comfortable walking in the neighborhood even at night, and there were plenty of convenience stores. The neighborhood doesn't have any frills, but it's neat to see how locals... More

Chinese Box Courtyard Hostel is easily one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. The hostel was recently renovated, meaning everything is clean and pretty new (as of Nov. 2014), particularly the communal bathroom! The ladies that work at the front desk were very nice and helpful. They were good at communicating with me via email and provided me... More

When I travel the most important things to me are clean rooms, hot water, location to subway and friendly & helpful staff. This spot was able to meet all the above and so much more. The food was amazing and it provided a real Chinese experience, I would highly recommend to anyone. We were only here for 2 nights and... More

Mum and I stayed in the four bed dorm for 3 or 4 nights (can't remember) but it was perfect. The hosts are wonderfully welcoming. I enjoyed the noodle night and also the dumpling party was sooo cool - loved learning how to make them! Great location away from the hustle and bustle but close to the subway station so... More

I stayed here with my partner for 3 nights over the winter-spring transition in summer. As someone who has stayed in a couple of hostels in Beijing, this was definitely my favourite and it is definitely the most authentic. We arrived horribly late at 2am and checking in was not a problem, and the lady who helped us was friendly... More
