very clean, the staff provided a great relaxed service, perfect location for exploring the nearby sights and centre of the city, and I felt completely safe travelling alone and staying here. The Forbidden Palace is around a ten minute walk, but you do not feel as though you are in the centre of a tourist attraction staying here, which is... More

We had a private room with en suite shower/toilet. Our room was clean and comfortable, and everything worked as it should. A couple chairs and a table would have been nice, but then the room would have felt crowded. With the courtyard immediately outside the room, and with tables and chairs there where we always felt welcome, it was not... More

It took us a little longer to find than we thought it would, but it is in a quiet location. The walls are thin, however, so you must be very conscious of your noise level when in your room. The rooms are clean, warm, and the showers are great. The courtyard itself is comfortable, spacious, and has a lot of... More

I spent a couple of nights here thanks to the good reviews. The hotel is located in a quiet hutong area with lots of local life. Much quieter than the commercialised Nanluoguxiang to the north which is about a 10 minute walk away (same distance to the nearest metro station). The owner is very friendly and speaks great English as... More

We stayed at Sitting on the City Wall Courtyard at the end of a two week trip through China and it was a nice place to stay with a relatively central location. The stand out of the property is the supremely helpful and patient staff. We got great directions and friendly service. We had one snack of soup noodles and... More

I would highly recommend Sitting on the City Walls. The location was fantastic, just over a beautiful hill, walking distance, from the Forbidden City. The Beijing subway is nearby too. The atmosphere is likewise great. Not too far from restaurants, although ordering was an experience because the little Mandarin I knew was terrible. My two friends and I were able... More

I'm not sure why people are giving this place bad reviews. City Walls is a completely fine place. The rooms are clean, the location is great; sure the ladies aren't the warmest of folk but they are VERY HELPFUL, which is more than I can say for the rest of Beijing. I was greeted with a lot of enthusiasm and... More

So Hutong area is nice, more typical than others hutongs in Beijing where maybe you can find more facilities for tourists but less atmosphere. The rooms are clean enough, i've been in a double (over prized in my opinion) but that's not the point. it is close to Forbidden city but to the exit, the entrance is at the opposite... More

We had stayed for 2 nights with this hostel and another hostel in Beijing prior to our travel to Mongolia. There was a huge difference in the hospitality provided in this hostel, especially by the owner Rick. Maps and bus/MRT routes were given for all the attractions in Beijing, while the earlier hostel didn't provide much information on these. They... More

This hovel's image has been almost fraudulently misrepresented by other reviews. The buildings are at best dirty, but in reality 'filthy' is the only applicable adjective. The so-called wifi only extends to the lobby, and many rooms get no connection. The staff is typically rude. The location is far removed from a metro stop and is difficult to locate. The... More
