Just a good place to relax. Town is just a walk away, the beach is very close and all the service was helpful and friendly. I thought the food was good, remembering that when in Rome, do as the Roman's do.

We only stayed here at the end of our holiday but was a continual stop during the day as it was a very welcoming atmosphere. The evenings entertainment in the evenings also made it one of our favourite evening ventures. I can also strongly recommend the Chinese restaurant up stairs.

A comfortable hotel in a fine colonial building. The staff are mostly friendly and helpful - one in particular was just a bit TOO damn friendly - the food is mostly pretty good, but avoid the pizza! One thing that's annoying is that "housekeeping" do their stuff in stages, so they may take the soap and towels away (even though... More

This hotel is great - if you were living in 1960! The building is sooo run down, NOTHING WORKS, no air con, no hot water, power cuts. even the ceilings in the hall ways are falling down! Worse - the complete incompetence of the staff. eg 45 minutes to check out - seriously! Result - I missed my flight. Way... More

We spend several nights in this hotel en we liked it! The hotel is charming and the location of the bar/restaurant/terrace in the front is just great. You can just sit here all day, sipping delicious cappucino's and watching people. Free wifi is available on the terrace and in the rooms. Rooms are ok, nothing special, but beds are nice,... More

Stayed here for 2 days. Management are incompetent. Power failed in room. Management did nothing to rectify situation in spite of saying to would be attended to "immediately" left in dark without air con, shower or TV. Rooms smell of mould and damp. The ceilings are decrepit with water dripping down plus asbestos flakes everywhere. The place is a health... More

We stayed at Castle Royal because we had to, with a very early flight the next morning. The hotel oozes colonial charm in the entrance and on the stairs, but also other more questionable substances from the walls and taps of the room. That is to say, it is one of those faded beauties that would deserve a good makeover,... More

We read the reviews and decided to stay here anyway because of the hotel's proximity to Old Town Mombasa. The rooms were clean, but one did not have hot water. This was not a problem that could be solved and well the deal was: either a noisy room with hot water or a quiet room with cold water. We chose... More

Have stayed here several times, primarily due to excellent location near old town Mombasa, within easy walking distance of Ft. Jesus, etc. Rooms are somewhat shabby but clean enough; because of its urban location, the hotel is quite noisy (traffic, dance music, etc.). Breakfast (included in room price) and dinner in restaurant are decent. Wireless internet charge seems quite expensive.... More

We stayed one night unexpectedly. This is an old time hotel that is closely linked with the history of the city. It is more of a local business hotel than a tourist place. The building is built for the tropics with inside halls open at the ends for breezes. The rooms are huge with high ceilings and covered verandas appropriate... More
