This year my wife and I had decided to spend our vacations in Kenya, a beautiful country with – in our opinion – an undeserved reputation of being risky for tourists. We were in Kenya in the second half of August 2014 and during our stay we never felt any sense of danger or enmity from the people. Definitely not... More

Alberto ! Wow....your wonderful description of camp and the excellent explanation of how authenticity can make all the difference to improve a safari really hit home..comments on the 'authenticity' of a camp or lodge can only really be believed when it comes from a past visitor such as yourself Alberto... And yes, I can go on a bit when it... More

We spent 4 amazing days in Cottars (family tent), the place is well managed, the staff is friendly and helpful and above all we enjoyed to the fullest game drives with excellent guide and masai spotter. One of our best experience in traveling, it really worth it!

We stayed there for 3 nights and wished for a couple more, as everyone says in their comments from the moment they pick you up till the moment you flight out they take care of you the service is amazing, every detail is covered and if not they make sure to fulfill all your expectations and special requests. We stayed... More

Dear Traveler4Leisure, your opinion - considering your experience on safari in the Mara and elsewhere - is important because you can compare and benchmark wilderness areas, quality of camps and actual experiences...We therefore feel honored that you have written about cottars this way...Thank you! Another important point you bring up is the world of difference between what we do and... More

We spent four nights at Cottar's Homestead last week. The location, facilities, hospitality / catering and staff are all first class. Nothing was too much trouble and the local knowledge and expertise was evident throughout our stay. Though experienced safari goers to South Africa in particular, this was our first visit to the Mara, via Tanzania and the Serengeti earlier... More

My wife and I spent 3 amazing days on our honeymoon at this magnificent camp. We wished we could have stayed much longer as it was quite simply, the best place we have ever stayed in. We travel a lot, but this truly took our breath away from the moment GiGi picked us up from the private airfield in a... More

Dear Paul and Miranda, so glad you enjoyed your stay!... And yes,it does get a bit windy at night I that time of year... Sleep quality due to katabatic winds through our valley ( and consequent flapping of canvas of the tents) is the only consistently 'non perfect' feedback we get in tripadvisor which is probably the main reason we... My family stayed in the Cottars Homestead the first week of August. It was absolutely incredible. The staff treated us like royalty and the house itself was so spacious with breathtaking views from every room. There were two beautiful swimming pools we could use. Ten years ago, my wife and I stayed in the elegant tents in the compound- they... More

We spend a superb 3 days at Cottars Camp in the Mara, and could not have been more impressed by the experience. From the moment we were picked up by our phenomenal guide, GG, to our departing plane ride, we were given the most incredible bespoke service by all the staff. On the game drive from the plane ride in... More

Cottar's Camp, long established in the Mara, is a quite exceptional place. A series of very comfortable and spacious tents, with en suite faculties including showers and flushing loos, extend along the hillside from the central mess and shop tents. The westwards views make for great sunsets. The central "mess" area is charmingly furnished in old colonial and "twenties" style... More

The nicest of all the Safari Lodges we stayed at on our recent & 1st trip with an unusual, but original (former hunting lodge) early 1900's theme on a very large, well groomed & maintained physical plant which was unique and fun. Wild game of all types (big 5, etc.) abounds. Numerous staff were well trained, courteous yet never overbearing.... More

Cottar's stands head and shoulders above the other safari camps we've experienced in Kenya. The facilities are gorgeous, the rangers are so very skilled and the food is spectacular! Cottar's, with it's nearly 100 year tradition in Kenya, has partnered with the Maasai to form the conservancy on which the camp is located and on which they safari - a... More
