The nicest of all the Safari Lodges we stayed at on our recent & 1st trip with an unusual, but original (former hunting lodge) early 1900's theme on a very large, well groomed & maintained physical plant which was unique and fun. Wild game of all types (big 5, etc.) abounds. Numerous staff were well trained, courteous yet never overbearing.... More

Cottar's stands head and shoulders above the other safari camps we've experienced in Kenya. The facilities are gorgeous, the rangers are so very skilled and the food is spectacular! Cottar's, with it's nearly 100 year tradition in Kenya, has partnered with the Maasai to form the conservancy on which the camp is located and on which they safari - a... More

A really extraordinary safari experience. Spectacular location, stunning tents and other facilities and impeccable service - but what really made the difference was the quality of the guides and spotters. They took us far from the crowds to lonely spots where we saw leopard after leopard, cheetah after cheetah, lion after lion, providing a steady flow of fascinating information about... More

We returned home from our family trip to Cottar's 1920s Camp on Saturday. I am already missing the beautiful people, as well as the incredible wildlife. We traveled with a rather large group of family. For several of us, this was a return trip to Cottar's (my first visit here was in 2004.). This was a trip that will forever... More

We touched down at an airstrip in the Masai Mara on a sunny morning in August as an exhausted and excited gaggle of sixteen adults and teenagers ( four families of friends). From the minute we met James , the manager and his guides Mako and Lutero , we felt the troubles of the outside world slowly diminish into the... More

Sanjay, amazing trip report - so much energy in it and so well articulated! I am really happy you had the best nights sleep ever while at camp, and also for mentioning the guiding quality and how the guides could keep the kids busy!...We love kids at camp, and have created an entire section for families that is separate from... By far the best vacation we've had. The icing on the cake was the final three nights we spent at cottars. The atmosphere, facilities and views were amazing. Our guide, G.G. was fantastic, excellent with the kids, very knowledgeable and managed to cover everything we wanted. Camp catered for our vegetarians requirements and staying outside the Mara allowed us to... More

We were fortunate enough to stay at Cottars for 5 nights at the end of July 2014 at the height of the migration and our time there proved to be the most magical and memorable trip we have ever had. We were met at Cottars airstrip by members of the team and warmly greeted with refreshing towels and drinks before... More

That was an amazing stay and an amazing human experience. The tents are really well accomodated and back into the Kenya colonial times and early days of safari. People were really there for us. The guides were perfectly English fluent and very knowledgeable on the wild life. Will go back there anytime.

Our trip to Cottar's was easily the best vacation I have ever had. From the minute we touched down in Nairobi International through our departure, Calvin Cottar or a representative from the camp was there to help us and guide us. Calvin even accompanied us on to the Serengeti for the final portion of the trip. The dining is fantastic;... More

Cottar's camp was our second and last stop on our week long safari in Kenya. It is a beautiful camp that reminds me of what it must have been like to be on Kenyan safari in the days of "Out of Africa." We were picked up by James, one of the camp managers, who was very friendly and his Masai... More

So many thanks for the wonderful post and yes sometimes we give our up and coming Maasai guides a chance to 'take the reins' so to speak and do some guiding....no one has more intimate knowledge of the area and the wildlife, and of course the culture...but if you want a gold guide next time we will be happy to...
