My wife and I had the pleasure of a 2 night retreat at Cottars camp in November 2014. At that time of year the Masai Mara is very dry and the Masai are forced to bring their large herds of cattle close to the park in order to find grazing. Some tourists could find this an annoyance. Our view is... More

Dear Tripadvisor member, thank him for your very positive comments, we feel that cottars is where many serious safari goers eventually gravitate to, for it's longevity and it's authenticity and what experience we can offer our guests today which is very different from the boutique lodges popping up everywhere. Thank you again, and please revisit some time in the near... More

If you are looking for something a little out of the ordinary and want to go on a safari at the same time, Cottar's camp is it. The camp is situated in a private conservatory bordering the game reserve of the Masai Mara and the Serengeti. The company offers personalized safari experiences where you can tailor your requirements and basically... More

This is our 5th time to cottars and each time it just gets better. The game viewing is excellent and the facilities are luxurious whilst retaining it's 1920's charm There are 22 gold guides in Kenya -3 of them are at cottars. If you want to experience real Africa with no boundaries and a tailored safari experience - cottars is... More

My husband had wanted to stay here for a very long time and it did live up to our expectations. The tents were extremely comfortable with lots of room for unpacking! Loos, shower and hand basins were great. You have your own personal 'tent man' and ours, Richard, was really thoughtful and his washing and ironing was better than mine... More

Marian B, you honored us with so much time , and I am happy you have enjoyed camp...I am guessing the not perfect sleep quality was the flapping tents from the extremely strong katabatic winds? It's calmed down now with the rains...... Thank you for your visit and please again! Calvin More

Our 6th stay in the Mara and believe us, Cottars is a VERY special place. If you want to enjoy the Mara without seeing any other cars in one of the most beautiful sceneries, if you want to find an incomparable atmosphere, if you want to live an "oldtimer safari" with exquisit confort, if you want to relax, to walk,... It is a pity Kenya, such a beautiful country going through an undeserved reputation of being risky for tourists. I was visiting family for the end of the year holidays and during my stay I never felt any sense of danger or enmity from the people. And definitely no presence of ebola! We spent two nights at the incredible Cottar's... More

We visited two safari camps over the late summer, and I would have to say that the best guides are truly from Cottar's. So a stay at Cottar's offers the best of glamping and guides. If you go, look for Douglas and Mako. They are not only knowledgeable, but also super accommodating and friendly.

What a world away from 'real life'! Greeted by professional and courteous staff and guides. The tent accommodation is a wonderful experience, especially with the fantastic 1920's decor and furniture. This was our first Safari camp before heading to other camps, we were certainly spoilt at Cottar's. We did have a hiccup with our departing flight, however the Cottar's staff... More

In this Africa, now changing far too quickly, a few things preserve the flavor of that remote past that made us dreaming of Africa even before our first trip. One of those rare gems is 1920 Camp, owned by the Cottar family, who moved from Texas to Kenya since 1919. If you want to immerse yourself in the elegant atmosphere... More
