Saruni is a wonderful small Safari Camp. The staff is excellent and they do everything they can to give you the most wonderful experience of the wildlife and the scenery in Masai Mara. It is a small lodge so you have an idea that you are in the middle of nothing, so much better than the big lodges in Masai... More

Dear Ellen, thank you for this wonderful review and for your kind words. We are delighted to have been able to make easier for you and your family to enjoy the wonders of the Masai Mara, and without the minibuses. I like your description of being "in the middle of nothing"!!!! We look forward to have you back time after... More

From the moment we stepped off our safari flight and were met by our masai guide and tracker, we all knew this was going to be a fabulous experience. Transport vehicle was one of the best (safaried on 4 occasions before) with open sides -but covered roof for shelter. 360 degree uninterupted vision - great. Evening safari from airstrip to... More

We arrived here and didn't want to leave. From the moment we were greeted by our guide John with a huge smile, to the moment we waved goodbye, it was the most beautiful three days I have ever had. The location is amazing, the wildlife there is abundant and well cared for. The altitude reduces the chance of being bitten... More

Thank you for this wonderful review. It has been a real pleasure to have you and your family with us. I like your comment about not seeing other tourists and having the feel of a real adventure: too often the Masai Mara is described as a tourist trap, full of vehicles etc, but even when we are in high season... I've been there a couple of time and I can't resist of thinking to be there again! This beautiful lodge (cottages) is located near the Mara Conservation Area and offer infinite possibilities of wildlife photography. The guides are amongst the best I've ever found (and I've traveled a lot) and always ready to help you in everything. Cottage are very... More

A heartfelt thank you, expecially from our guides who are very proud of receiving your praise. Good guiding is what makes a difference between an OK safari and a really good safari, so I'm very grateful that you have made this comment. And thank for the point about food. yes, being Italian I consider food important, maybe sometimes too important!... More

We have been to Saruni Mara for the 3rd time since 2008 and we still love this place, it is like coming home. The lodge got fantastic views and the manager and all the staff are brilliant, they can't do enough for you. Food is super. Rooms are spacious with their own terrace and spaced out for privacy. Even though... More

Thank you for this wonderful feedback about Saruni Mara, my own home and the place that you have visited already three times, making it almost like your home too! I like the point that you make about the national reserve: it is sometimes difficult to explain to those who haven't been to Kenya and to the Masai Mara, but the... More

A truly memorable experience. The rooms are spacious, charming and well appointed, the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are massive. Beautiful details and fixtures in the rooms, with luxurious all-brass fittings. All the rooms are positioned so that the view is of total wilderness - with zebra and eland roaming through fields on the hillside in front of the... More

Thank you very much for this wonderful review. I really appreciate the comment on how we are flexible and dedicated to make a tailor-made experience. Expecially in the Masai mara, where elite tourism co-exists with mass tourism, it is important that the name of Saruni is associated with a more intimate, personalized experience. Thank you very much for coming to... More

Our Kenya trip would not have been what is was without Saruni. Kenya is an amazing country thanks to the wildlife, people, topography... and the list goes on. Our family (kids 9 and 7) spent a total of 11 nights in Kenya, three of it at Saruni Wild and three at Samburu Saruni. And, true to their word, the safari/adventure... More

Saruni Wild is the 3-tents "subsidiary" of Saruni Mara lodge. I love this review because it comes from a family with relatively young kids: it shows how enhanced the experience is when the attitude is right and when we provide exactly what was expected. We visited Saruni as a couple in 2007 and loved it, vowing one day to return with our adult offspring. I like this review because, from an independent point of view, makes the point that the wildlife inside the mara North Conservancy - where Saruni is located - is as good as the one inside the Masai mara National Reserve, even during the "migration months" of July/August.September/October. The Mara North Conservancy is an amazing experiment in modern and community-friendly conservation... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Saruni is a small, luxury lodge in Mara North Conservancy, the best wildlife area in the Masai mara ecosystem. We have one family villa and 5 cottages. Our masai guides are among the best in Kenya and to discover the amazing wildlife of the Mara with them is an unforgettable experience. In July 2012 Saruni Mara opened the doors of a brand new family villa and completed the refurbishment of its existing villa’s in to six beautifully designed, themed rooms. The stylish new villa has two en-suite bedrooms and a large lounge complete with dinning area and comfortable sofa’s sounding the welcoming fireplace. There is also an impressive large veranda overlooking the magnificent scenery of the Masai Mara. The remaining villas have been refurbished to incorporate themes that will engage with guests passions whether that is art, astronomy, photography, literature, natural history or simply romance. All furniture, carpets, lamps and bedding was either sourced locally in Nairobi or designed by Kenyan interior decorator Larissa Hoops and then made by local craftsmen. The Art room will inspire creative guests with an easel and paint as well as a desk with drawing materials. For star gazers, the Astronomy room has a vintage brass telescope, moon map and selection of interesting material on all things cosmic.Book worms and budding writers will enjoy staying in the Literature room with its vintage typewriter, leather reading chairs, desk with brass reading lamp, quill pen and leather blotter. Evenings can be spent relaxing in the common area enjoying fine cuisine influenced by Riccardo’s Italian family heritage. Guests can also enjoy bush breakfasts and dinners in breathtaking settings such as in the middle of an acacia forest.
