Saruni Mara is a very unique and special place. Raymond and Chelsea were cracking hosts and our guide Jackson was the man. Often spotting wildlife that we then had to put the binoculars on to see. We were very impressed with the food and especially the biscuits but most of all the welcoming and gentle nature of all the staff.... More

The owner, mangers (Raymond and Chelsea), staff - especially John our guide made this safari outstanding. There was everything: wonderful people, outstanding accommodation, imaginative, delicious meals, animals everywhere including a migration crossing of wildebeest and two separate leopards. This was my fifth or sixth visit to Saruni, and it just gets better and better.

This was our first trip to Africa ... and after searching through several trip advisor reviews, we selected Saruni Mara for our first safari experience - and what a great choice it was ! From the first contact with Saruni camps, our experience was fabulous. Fatima (thank you !) and Riccardo (thank you !) in the head office were very... More

This was our first time in Africa and feel very fortunate that we stayed at two Saruni properties, Mara and Samburu. Both are amazing but I will stick to Mara for this review and do a different one for Samburu, both we rate excellent. Form the moment we were picked up by our guide, John, in Mara, we knew it... Being our first trip to Africa, I had an expectation that a camp that advertised as "Luxury" accommodations would be something less than a "Western-style" luxury facility. True, there was no marble or granite bathroom, and the thatched roof let a moth in our room from time to time. But, our 4 night stay at the Saruni Mara was the... More

We came to the Mara from the sister property Saruni Samburu. We had an excellent stay with very good game viewing including elephant, lion, cheetah, leopard and hippos. The lodge was being refurbished while we we're staying so we stayed in the owner's camp. No complaints here, it was a gorgeous house with a fireplace in the living area and... More

Thank you very much for your fantastic review and I'm glad we exceeded your expectations. Point noted on the matter of who the menus for the two lodges can be repetitive: we'll make sure that guests staying in both are not offered the same dishes. More

We stayed at the Saruni lodge for four nights during our honeymoon and it was a truly unforgettable experience. From the moment we landed in our small light aeroplane and were greeted by our guide (the wonderful and charming Saruni) to the moment we said goodbye to our lovely hosts Chelsea and Raymond we could not have had a better... We had our honeymoon at Saruni Samburu, Saruni Masai Mara and Saruni Wild. It was our first time to Kenya, more specifically Africa (if you don't count Morocco, which is something completele different) and it was perfect. We could not have wished for a better honeymoon. To be honest, we were ready for the great wildlife (which was in reality... More

Thank you BushBabies for your fantastic review and for choosing Saruni and Kenya for your honeymoon. I'm very happy that you enjoyed the experience so much and I really appreciate your comment about seeing more wildlife than expected but also experiencing that a safari is more than wild animals. We look forward to have you back one day soon. More

Wow. Words can not even describe this trip, but I am going to give it a shot. The people of Saruni are just amazing. From booking our reservation directly with Saruni to our last day in Nairobi the staff was unbelievable. We booked the flight from NYC to Nairobi ourselves and got our Visa on our own. Saruni did everything... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Saruni is a small, luxury lodge in Mara North Conservancy, the best wildlife area in the Masai mara ecosystem. We have one family villa and 5 cottages. Our masai guides are among the best in Kenya and to discover the amazing wildlife of the Mara with them is an unforgettable experience. In July 2012 Saruni Mara opened the doors of a brand new family villa and completed the refurbishment of its existing villa’s in to six beautifully designed, themed rooms. The stylish new villa has two en-suite bedrooms and a large lounge complete with dinning area and comfortable sofa’s sounding the welcoming fireplace. There is also an impressive large veranda overlooking the magnificent scenery of the Masai Mara. The remaining villas have been refurbished to incorporate themes that will engage with guests passions whether that is art, astronomy, photography, literature, natural history or simply romance. All furniture, carpets, lamps and bedding was either sourced locally in Nairobi or designed by Kenyan interior decorator Larissa Hoops and then made by local craftsmen. The Art room will inspire creative guests with an easel and paint as well as a desk with drawing materials. For star gazers, the Astronomy room has a vintage brass telescope, moon map and selection of interesting material on all things cosmic.Book worms and budding writers will enjoy staying in the Literature room with its vintage typewriter, leather reading chairs, desk with brass reading lamp, quill pen and leather blotter. For clients that prefer to view life through the lens, the Photography room has an old box browning camera, antique photographic equipment catalogue and stunning prints adorn the walls.
