We were looking for self-catering house or lodge in the Mara for a family of 8 in the Mara. Surprisingly, there are very few. By checking on the internet, reviews on tripadvisor and with a travel agent in Nairobi, we selected Jacqueline's House. The properties' gallery sealed the booking. What you see is not always what you get... But let's... More

Had a fantastic two night stay at Mara Enkipai camp. Arrived after a very long and tiring journey to be greeted by lovely drinks, friendly staff and beautiful tents. The main tent is gorgeous and great for lounging in after a long day in the Mara. Our tents were also fantastic - with two double beds each, a dressing area,... More

A special holiday indeed! From the location, to the food and the service from the Masai themselves, we were just awed. It was a family holiday with 3 kids and the whole place was so kid-friendly. To add to the adventure, we also spotted several cats ...the lion king claiming its territory with 2 cheetah ( i kid you not!... More

I booked mara Enkipai - the house for my Mothers 70th birthday celebrations, it was also my brother and sister in laws first trip to kenya. Our party included my mum at 70, as well as my 3 year old son and 3 month old baby. Not the easiest group to cater for! We booked the private house on a... More

We'd invited two of our children and a grandchild to visit us in Kenya. We'd told them how nice the Mara Triangle is and how great the food is at safari camps, and they were really looking forward to the trip. The Mara Triangle was great! But the food at the Enkipai Safari Camp was terrible. They charged as much... More

For my mom's 60th birthday she wanted to go on safari, so we started out at Mara Enkipai, just outside the Masai Mara. We first arrived at Kichwa Tembo airstrip in a little 12? passenger plane, and immediately saw zebras, cape buffalo, and warthogs just hanging out right at the airport! We were running around like crazy tourists taking pictures... More

Our group comprised eight people - 4 x couples - who stayed in the house ("House Jacqueline") where the accommodation was rustic but comfortable and homely - and ideal for our purposes. The staff provided our meals, serviced the rooms, did our laundry, anticipated our every need and were unfailingly attentive and charming. Early departures into the National Park were... More

My parents came to visit me in Kenya and obviously I had to take them to the Masai Mara. My mum was a bit scared. She is not the type of person to spend in tents and hang out next to the fireplace. However, she loved it! We had a wonderful time at Enkipai. It is such a wonderful place... More

The unique history of this "home in the Mara" rental keeps me bringing friends and visitors back again... and will continue to do so. An easy drive from Nairobi (as Mara drives go!) and just 10 minutes from the gate to the best part of the whole reserve. Plus, a fantastic staff and wonderful cook make the place like home... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Jacqueline Roumeguere-Eberhardt was born and raised in Northern Transvaal, South Africa and initiated as a Venda Princess. She studied Anthropology in The Sorbonne in Paris where she met her first husband Pierre Roumeguere. They set off together on many adventures in Africa, Pierre as a Diplomat and Jacqueline working for the French National Council of Scientific Research (CNRS). In the early 60’s, after spending 3 months in the desert looking for the Lost City of the Kalahari, they ended up in Kenya where Jacqueline decided to record the Maasai people’s amazing ceremonial cycle. She spent her whole life photographing, filming and observing ceremonies that may never happen again. She fell in love with Ole Kapusia, a young and valiant warrior who not only helped her with her research but also raised her three French children, Isabelle, Carolyn and George. In 1979, Jacqueline and Ole Kapusia built a family home, Mara Enkipai, where Jacqueline spent a lot of time writing. Her last book yet to be published is called ‘My husband’s six wives….’. By the time she finished writing it, Jacqueline was the first of Ole Kapusia’s nine wives. Jacqueline’s writing refuge has now been opened by George & Vanessa Roumeguere, her son & daughter-in-law. The couple aspire to share with each guest a little of the passion, adventure and culture of this unusual family home. ... more   less
