Excellent setting. All the tents had privacy. Excellent food. All the staff were very very helpful and accommodating. No request was ever too difficult for them to fulfill. Our driver/guide was just fantastic. He spotted animals from miles away. Perfect for a safari. The area is not as commercial as some parts of the Maasai Mara which was just what... More

More than anything, the staff were so incredibly friendly and accomodating. Tents were very comfortable, 24 hour hot water showers. Incredible setting and we saw some really amazing game aswell. Would definately recommend!

We arrived on the 28th of Dec and stayed for 3 nights. After a long and slightly treacherous 6 and ½ hour journey from Nairobi (!) we arrived to an extremely warm welcome and much needed cold refreshments. The ‘tents’ were amazing and the quality of the bathrooms is particularly noteworthy. Our group occupied West 5, 6 and 7. My... More

During our 3-week tour of the national parks and reserves in Kenya our first stay for 3 nights was at this tent camp which proved to be fabulous introduction to our adventures. The tents were spacious and comfortable with a lovely bathroom and shower, and an outdoor sitting area located on an embankment above the river where we could observe... More

We stayed at Ilkeliani Tented Camp for 2 nights on a recent safari through Kenya and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The camp is situated beside a river where animals come down to drink and we had a great time in the afternoons and evenings watching the baboons, mongooses and birds down by the river. The tents are comfortable, the staff... More

We've recently returned from staying at the Ilkeliani Camp as part of a safari trip with Naturetrek, it is the first time we have experienced camping in the Mara. It exceeded our expectations by far, the 'tent' was double zipped, spacious, equipped with everything we required, toiletries, daily clean towels and linen, a very comfy bed and a bathroom bigger... We stayed two nights recently and wished we could have stayed longer. Arriving at night after a late start in Nairobi, we initially had a hard time finding the camp because it is so unobtrusively tucked away in a perfect spot along the Talek River, right in the middle of the Mara. We were met by spear and lantern wielding... More

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at this camp. Our tent was very large and easily handled 3 beds. I really liked the way the bathroom was setup. The bathrooms in some of our other camps the bathroom did not provide a lot of privacy. Here the entire bathroom area zipped closed. There was also plenty of warm water for... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled in a riverine forest in the Masai Mara Game Reserve, the area is a favourite for elephants coming to drink from the Talek River. Ilkeliani camp consists of only 17 tents, each commanding views of the plains and the wildlife action throughout the day. The tented rooms are raised up slightly on earth mounds, overlooking the river and the plains. These mounds are covered in vegetation, and feel quite natural, and each one has been sited under its own cluster of shady indigenous trees and you do feel like you are out in the wilderness. ... more   less
