Great location, great staff, good food, top tents, perfect for visiting the Mara just across the footbridge. Spectacular balloon trip with Hot Air Safaris based out of there, culminating in a champagne breakfast. Saw all the animals several times, and often alone, under the expert guidance of our Masai guide/driver Daniel

Our stay at Ilkeliani was truly amazing and memorable. The service offered right from the start when we arrived at the camp was immaculate. The detail to attention to everything from meals, to accommodation, and general comfort of guests was really quite impressive. The hospitality of the staff was really very heart warming. The camp is situated close enough to... More

We stayed here for 2 nights during our Kenyan Safari and it was by far the best amongst the 3 different properties we stayed at. 1. Awesome Location - very close to the main gate and the rope suspension bridge entry is a real special one! We had lots of fun crossing it with our infant son! 2. Impeccable Service... More

we have spent 2 nights in this camp, and it has been a great experience! the tents are big and comfortable, in deep contact with nature but with the safety guaranted by the Maasai guardians. I will never forget the silence, interrupted only by the river flowing and by the sound of the crickets. the meals were good, even if... More

The camp is close to the Talek gate. It take around 15-20m to enter the gate from outside. But if you just cross the Talek river over bridge you are inside the park, its an advantage. We saw elephants and zebras right outside the lodge. The food is very good, same with service. The rooms/tents are very next to the... More

The highly-scripted welcome along with the double-dose instruction on tipping (really, during the first five minutes of arriving?) was a little off-putting. Thankfully, things improved extraordinarily. Food quality was great, portions reasonable. Drinks (alcohol, water, soft drinks) all extra, modest prices even given the remoteness of the camp. Restaurant staff, guides/monitors all uber friendly. Reception woman, indifferent and really a... More

AT first I was quite disppointed our lodge was not IN the National PArk but on the other side of the Talek River.... At first I was disappointed that the village surrounding the camp looks like a favela.... But I must say that the tents along the river are great, you see a lot of animals passing by, birds,bats,hippos,mangoost..a very... More

Dear Petrakis75 Thank you for your review. We will pass on your compliments to the chef. On another note we note your comments about the village about 4 km away . Please be informed Ilkeliani Camp has sits own private suspension bridge for direct access into the game reserve thereby avoiding any activities near the village .The bridge facilitates our... More

3 nights in the Mara at this camp as part of a 15 day tour of Kenya. First, the tented camps are great, running hot water, very comfortable beds, and comfortably fitted in 4 of us (2 children). Make sure you take note of the advice and keep your tent closed, as the monkeys (and maybe a few other visitors... More

Staff 10/10. Location 10/10. Food (miles from anywhere) 9/10. Hired a local Masai, Julius, for safari, 11/10. Amazing place. Whistle stop 2 night stay touring country. Travelled from UK. Can not recommend highly enough. Well done. All photos displayed my own.

Having booked a solo long weekend in the Masai Mara through Exodus on a bit of a whim and weathered the various incredulous reactions from family, friends and colleagues I departed LHR with a little trepidation. Having arrived at the small Masai Mara airstrip via a 6 seater plane which offered incredible views we were met by Daniel who would... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled in a riverine forest in the Masai Mara Game Reserve, the area is a favourite for elephants coming to drink from the Talek River. Ilkeliani camp consists of only 17 tents, each commanding views of the plains and the wildlife action throughout the day. The tented rooms are raised up slightly on earth mounds, overlooking the river and the plains. These mounds are covered in vegetation, and feel quite natural, and each one has been sited under its own cluster of shady indigenous trees and you do feel like you are out in the wilderness. ... more   less
