was just in Lamu for a few nights - great time to visit and had a wonderful room at Banana House - Saadi was a great host - I did yoga every day and also had a couple of meals there - I can't recommend it enough --- if you are worried about Lamu, don't be - it's very safe... More

Dear guest, thank you for your recommendation and I'm also pleased to hear your satisfaction to Saadi as the host, as myself I was not in the office. I feel happy that our entire team works smooth together also when I'm not around. Hope to see you personally next time. Warm greetings, The Banana House team More

4 weeks in Banana House. You can't imagine how relax we are. Monika, Banana and their staff are like family to us. We stayed at Banana in September 2014 and don't believe anything you read in the media! Lamu and Shela are the most peaceful places on earth. No kidnapping, no terrorism, no Shabab, no Jihad, just pure nature and... More

I went to Shela for the weekend to escape the city, and it turned out to be the best idea I've had in a long time... The island is so sleepy and peaceful that it's impossible not to be absorbed into the slow, gentle pace of life. Banana House harnesses the best of what the island has to offer: innately... More

Banana House on Lamu Island is one of the most wonderful places I have stayed in a lifetime of globe-trotting. It is a perfect tropical paradise. Situated just back from the ocean in Shela village, it consists of four separate houses, one lived in by Monika, the proprietor, and her family and the rest consisting of suites and individual rooms... Banana House and Wellness Centre on Lamu Island is very well located, beautifully appointed, professionally staffed, maintained and organized. It's an architectural show-piece in a town known for its architectural tradition. The owner Monika attended to our needs and interests, and organized activities and outings with her colleagues that really gave us a feeling for the Swahili culture and tradition,... More

23 - 31 Aug 2014 We have just returned from 8 nights on Lamu Island - we were staying at the fabulous Banana House in Shela (where all the good beaches are - a short distance away from Lamu town). It is absolute PARADISE and it is SAFE. Many tourists had cancelled their trips and we were so SO happy... More

It's a beautiful hotel with staff who are amazingly friendly. The room we stayed in was georgeous. I had great yoga sessions with Monika every day. The food that we had there was delicious. The island itself was deserted of tourists though because of the recent travel warnings. It was great for us as we got to enjoy quiet beaches... More

We wished we could have stayed longer. Lamu is a very special and peaceful place and Banana House encompasses the hospitality and relaxation of the island. We had a great stay and hope more people get to discover this piece of paradise.

We had a very pleasant stay in this unfortunately too quiet a corner of paradise (although very nice for us) - with the current insecurity on the nearby mainland of late. All we can say is that Lamu and Shella are somewhat needlessly suffering as a result of the travel warnings - and we could not have felt safer or... More

My sister daughter and I stayed at banana house at the beginning of June 2014. It is the rainy season and we all became ill and needed a doctor. The local nurse told us there was a diarrhea epidemic in lamu and shela and she tried to treat us but what we really needed was proper medical advice. I was... More
