Great place if you wish to enjoy the charming swahili architecture, in total contrast to the standard modern hotels with their usual frills. Here are three old houses around a garden, with rooms which have kept their traditional style. Only the swimming pool, straight out of 1950s design, reminds you of modernity. The staff here are really friendly, and the... more

We visited Lamu and stayed at Kiljani House Hotel as part of our holiday to Kenya for our 5th Wedding Anniversary and have to say that we loved it. The hotel was just perfect and set in beautiful gardens, it was just so peaceful. All of our meals were lovely. Our room was wonderful. We were made very welcome by... more

If you want a holiday on the edge of the Indian Ocean, listening to all the waves and looking out from your balcony on the dhows moved bellow and tropical flowers and foliage,Kijani House is a good place. It is situated in a small maze-like Arabic style Village of Shela, and made up of three or four Arabic style houses around a large,wonderfully... more

We have been to Kijani for a week in February and it as been an unforgettable experience.A totally relaxing and regenerating vacation! Lamu Island is rich in history and nature.Abdul the hotel guide proposed us some excursion by dhow, the typical local boat. The trip that we recommended to the sea lovers,is for sure the one to Kinika,a rocky atoll in the... more

I spent a couple of days at Kijani House in Lamu, celebrating my 40th birthday. Met a lot of wonderful people, and had the time of my life. Stayed at Kijani House, Pierre the owner greeted us at the beach and made sure that our stay was nothing short of perfect. Make sure you breakfast at Kijani House, the fish... more

The island is beautiful, it is a shame that my stay was spoiled by the Kijani hotel. While the staff are friendly, they are terribly slow and it takes several requests to get what you want. Check-in was slow, food service terrible. The rooms are very plain and don't warrant the high price. You must request your food in the... more

There is nothing wrong with Kijani House that a smile, some good attitude and friendliness as well as 50% discount could not fix. Hopelessly overpriced for what it offers, surly service, joyless atmosphere, overpriced trips and ambitious yet dilettant food. Its a long walk to any good beach, at least 20 Min. The owner is a humorless Swiss who only... more

we've been here before and you know what is surprising? each time this place overcomes all expectations! sipping a lime juice in this gorgeous tropical garden waiting for the fish dinner to be served in the open air terrace after a day of relax on the endless beach is an experience each one should have at least once. being an... more

we didn't stay at the hotel. the gardens and restaurant were a great setting. We had dinner here, and it was our most expensive dinner in Lamu, but it was disappointing. I would recommend eating elsewhere (more cheaply and tastily) even if you do stay here. more

A memorable stay in a delightful hotel. The staff were friendly and obliging - nothing was too much trouble. We had a wonderful room and terrace overlooking the sea with a large upper terrace too from where there were views of both the bay and the gardens. We could watch the world go by and all the activities of in... more
