I had the fortune of staying at Subira House for two nights while I was in Lamu for a short work assignment. I stayed in one of the rooftop rooms, and absolutely loved my stay. The owners, Christina and Paul, were so welcoming and friendly, and went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable. They have done... More

Gelani will pick u from the airport and brings you home. The authenticity of the house is celebrated and developed with a special eye for beauty and niceness, better then you could have imagined. Kiki and Paul are such kind hosts, they will point out any particular beach or event you are looking for...

This hotel in Lamu is located close to the docks where the boats coming from the airport arrive and in the back of the main Lamu square. It is centrally located, secure, easy to reach restaurants and main attractions. The rooms are quite nice, comfortable, with good bed which gives you a very good sleep. The lack of hot water in... Subira house is an architectural gem set right behind the Lamu Fort in the "stone city" of Lamu. The hosts are most solicitous of your comfort, and the hotel restaurant has lovely food. An incredibly romantic spot for a get away. Lamu is very much a hard working port town and you can spend hours just watching the dhows come... More

I stayed a week in Subira House in the center of Lamu Town this year and the previous year, and quite loved it. The Swedish owner/operators Kiki and Paul Aarts are lovely hosts, and their staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel could not be more centrally located, just behind the main square and the old Portuguese Fort in town.... We are now so lucky to have a fantastic internet connection. Paul from Island Tecnologies came and installed a kind of radio sender linked with a tall radio mast just behind us. It works beautifully! Welcome back!!! Christina More

We spent ten days in Lamu at Subirahouse. It's a beautiful old house restored with much care by the owners. The house was the residence in the 19th century of the governor of Lamu and it has the grandeur that suits such a position. Subira house is in the middle of Lamu town. And what kind of town it is.... Subira House is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. It is actually a centuries-old Swahili mansion, lovingly restored by its current owners, nestled behind an ancient fort and convenient to Lamu's market and waterfront. If you want to visit Lamu, then you want to stay at a hotel like Subira House where you will not... More

We stayed at Subira House for five nights in early December in one of the "Top top" rooms. It was absolutely delightful. There was plenty of space, some breeze off the ocean, and we appreciated the eco-friendly touches: waterless toilet, absorbent towels, a "shopping basket" to carry to avoid plastic bags. Food was fantastic: a generous breakfast with fresh squeezed... More

We stayed in Lamu for 3 nights and finally we chose to stay in Subira House, which was a great decision. The hotel is a very nice place, with simple but cosy rooms. I loved its eco-friendliness, especially the toilet (a little bit of inconvinence for having one of the most eco-friendly toilet solution in your room). Though we missed... More

We stayed at Subira House for 5 nights the week before Christmas 2013, with our 2 young children. We enjoyed one of the "top top" rooms--it was plenty of space for the 4 of us, really. Even though I am a bit overly safety conscious it was totally fine to have the kids on the rooftop room (walls were high... More
