I have stayed at Fatuma's Tower twice and I plan on including it each time I go to Lamu island! In the midst of Shela Village, Fatuma's Tower offers a peaceful oasis retreat where you will be surrounded by beautiful garden areas! Each room feels private and you may even feel like you have the whole place to yourself! There... More

As a islander, from Sardinia, the idea of lounging on white-sand beach, wearing bikini and kikoi, walking barefoot all day, eating fresh food sounded like an ideal way to spend my holiday and drop out of my own paradise to discover a new different one . As a inn proprietor I know the importance of the attention to detail and the welcome... More

I've just moved to Nairobi for a six week work placement of sorts and after two weeks of the traffic and general frustrations of life in Nairobi (probably particularly stark for a newcomer from London), I really needed a break. I just didn't know quite how much until I got to Shela island and all the tension I'd been carrying... More

The last days of our trip in Kenya & Rwanda were magical thanks to this magnificant accomodation. Staff was extremely helpfull and kind. Owner is Mr. Relaxed himself and I enjoyed my first yoga lessons very much! Room, dinner, Shela... everything is perfect in this place. Thanks for making our last days so wonderful.

I stayed at Fatuma's Tower with my two boys (14 and 11) back in July. Such a lovely place, a hidden gem in the back of Shela village. The food was outstanding, with Hamisi and his ever present smile happy to accommodate your requirements. Gilles was very helpful if we had questions or needed advice...he would always stop by for... Not so much a hotel as a favoured pension/guest house located in a restored historic old building/site, with trees and gardens and a feel of a 'home stay'. Liked all of the rooms (stayed in two different ones), the food cooked to our preferences (lobster, prawns, calamari . . .), the dining in the central courtyard under a great tree,... More

We went as a group of friends who work together in Nairobi, some of staying a full week in August and the others joining for the weekend. We had all been to Lamu previously, and we all thoroughly enjoyed Fatuma's Tower. The owner, Gillies, was very helpful in advising on which rooms to use and in accommodating an ever-changing schedule.... More

I stayed at Fatuma's Tower with my fiancè this past weekend, and we had a splendid time there. The staff was very warm and welcoming, and with Gillies at the lead, there are no worries to be bad. Even though we required special accommodation once or twice due to having friends in Shela who weren't staying at Fatuma's, the staff... More

We had a great time at Fatuma's tower. Well maintained, professional courteous staff, welcoming accomodating and friendly owner. Good beds, reasonable pillows, ceiling fan, and always water for a shower. Excellent veranda areas. 5 min. walking pole pole to Peponi Hotel for sundowner, or lunch. It was very hot though when we were there, recommend different month to visit Lamu.... More

My son and I finished our mission work in Kenya with a stay in Lamu. Fatuma's towers was a spiritual and amazingly peaceful place. The workers were extremely trust worthy, the food was freaking amazing, and my son made mention to return to Lamu when we returned to Kenya. I am going back to Lamu in 2013 with my youth... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Carefully restored and modified in 1998 the historic Tower has five double bedrooms and a large yoga hall. Included behind the same compound wall is the Sand Castle with it's ground floor family apartment of three double rooms. In the surrounding gardens, the Garden Cottage has two double rooms both with bathrooms. The ten double rooms are all furnished with local antiques and fabrics in a simple yet elegant style to recreate the atmosphere of a fine Swahili house. No two rooms are the same and the cool, airy spaces retain an informal feel while several shaded balconies provide comfortable areas for avoiding too much sun and generally enjoying the peace and fresh air. The peaceful gardens have been recently " enlivened" by the refreshing sound of a fountain splashing over coral rocks into a small plunge pool. All rooms have solar powered hot water, fans and mosquito nets. ... more   less
