We stayed at the Karen Blixen cottages at the beginning and end of our African safari trip in Kenya and can't write enough accolades for this distinctive boutique hotel. After a 24 hr trip from the United States, the arrival at the Blixen Cottages was the sweetest thing one could hope for. Located in Karen, a short drive from the... More

The cabins are comfortable and spacious and the grounds are outstanding in the landscaping and historical buildings. The food and service were excellent, as were the array of curios at a fair price.

I stayed at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden for several days in March, 2011. I was there for a meeting with colleagues, but we also had significant leisure time. I loved everything about this place! The entire ambience was wonderful - classy yet relaxed. The rooms were great, the restaurants and food were great, and the bar was great. The... More

This was an oasis within Nairobi from a very busy city, that is one of the most historic hotels and sites in the county. The rooms are outstanding, clean and service wonderful. The pool is nice on hot days and several bars very useful for social gatherings. The gift shop was one of the best selections I found at more... More

Apart from just the ambience and calm setting of Karen Blixen in the afternoon during non-high season tourist stops, the Salmon Pizza is really very good. Eat in or Take Away which is available, this Pizza ranks quite high up. Karen Blixen is also a favourite stop for locals who live in the area and is a meeting point for... More

Stayed with family (3 young children after New Year). Hotel was OK but very overpriced. They managed to charge my credit card twice and two years later they still refuse to acknowledge the error? and reimburse me despite many emails and acceptance of fault. This is the only forum available to post this criticism. Also poor location for any decent... More

We began our two week stay in Kenya at the Karen Blixen Cottages. While we had very little time to enjoy the beautiful gardens (we were at the hotel no more than 24 hours, en route to safari) and friendly service, our stay was very comfortable. The cottages are charming and nicely appointed, and the breakfast was fantastic! We would... More

We came to Karen Blixen on the recommendation of a frequent-travelling friend who pointed out, as other reviews here do, that it's a nice calm place in a pretty busy city. It also helps that it is not so far - maybe 12km as the crow flies - from Wilson field, which has clear getting-to-the-Mara implications. It's further from Jomo... More

Have visited Karen Blixen Coffee Garden on several occasions. Love the food, the peace and serenity and the customer service. Looked round the rooms and absolutely loved them. Must admit i have never stayed there - a little pricey for me but soon...

The cottages, which are extraordinarily expensive, are quite lovely and the area is quiet. The beds are very hard though. And I've never stayed at a $300 night hotel that refused to give me shampoo. However, I had a visitor and in the morning when leaving for the airport the guard refused to let me leave. They wanted an additional... More

The cottages are located in Karen, a beautiful, peaceful suburb approximately 20 miles from downtown Nairobi and about half a mile from the famous Karen Blixen Museum. The cottages are located in the midst of one of the oldest formal gardens in Kenya which have huge jacaranda, candelabra, cactus, bottlebrush, and other trees.
