I was very lucky to find out Alan Donovan on Internet, so I managed to book on AHH our two nights stay in Nairobi. African Heritage House is the most amazing place where I stayed ever as well as Alan Donovan is the strongest personality I met ever. AHH is situated just near Nairobi National Park and very closed from... More

I really enjoyed the visit to the African Heritage House. Really astonishing the amount of African art that the gentleman has collected for so many years. Lunch is fine. Worth to visit it. The house is really charming.

Unfortunately, we had already booked another hotel before I found this place, but we went to have dinner with the owner after which he showed us around his art collection. The architecture is amazing and the rooms beautifully decorated and the terraces offer gorgeous views over the National Park. But what really sets this place apart is the art collection,... More

We stayed at the African Heritage House, at the end of our trip to Kenya. We wish we had more time, so we could stay a bit longer in this unique and beautiful house. We enjoyed the company of Alan Donovan, the owner, for a drink after dinner. He is a very interesting acquaintance.

Alan Donovan, owner, host, and internationally famous promoter of African arts and their preservation and appreciation, has built a guesthouse / museum / destination beyond any experience we have had. His home houses a priceless collection of traditional and contemporary art from around the continent, about which, Alan is the acknowledged expert and guide. His expertise as an interior designer,... My mother and I visited the African Heritage House after we read an article describing it as the "most photographed house in Africa" - and we can see why! The architecture of the house itself is based on a Mali mud fort. It stands on a hill overlooking the Nairobi National Park and offers incredible views from each of its... More

After years living in the area I had never heard of this place. We went for a day visit of the museum and not to stay. The house is beautiful in construction and the pieces very extensive. The owner is not that much a tour guide and mu h mire could be learned if more was shared. Nevertheless worth the... More

An amazing place to stay. Alan has built this up over 20+ years, and it is packed, top to bottom and in every bedroom, with arts, crafts and antiquities from all over Africa. Every room is different, and all are immensely stylish. It has featured in magazines worldwide, and for a good reason. Whilst not budget priced, by Nairobi standards... More

The stay at African Heritage is without doubt one of our best memories from 2013! My sister and I arrived late at night and everything was darker than dark – so when Zak knocked on the door and served hot coffee I was knocked out by the interior, the morning light and view over Nairobi National Park. Magnificent. Two Australian... More

We picked this house in which to stay because of its location (near the airport) and because it looked interesting, and because we needed somewhere to stay before and after our safari. From the time that Gideon (a private taxi operator, but one that Alan Donovan uses and recommends) met us at the airport to the time we left nearly... More
