The room they gave us at first filty. The bed, had something on it things that used to be called a matress. The spings were all out... more

I had read a lot of negative reviews about the Cleopatra Hotel in travel guides and the Lonely Planet, but when Thomas Cook offered to book it for me I decided to take a chance. To start with, it wasn't expensive, which suited me because I was on a tight budget. We arrived at 10 AM, which was before check-in,... more

A large hotel in the city centre. Good sized open foyer with a bar and internet access. The staff were helpful and friendly. There was a small swimming pool and lounge area on the roof with lovely views of the Nile. The room was small and a bit worn but had a good hot shower, a small colour TV, and... more

Nice, typically Egyptian hotel. Very friendly personnel who try to make you feel at home. Good local kitchen. Cleanliness is fair. Of course it is not Europe or USA. For Egyptian standard the hotel is o.k. I do not agree with the negative reviews cited elsewhere on this site. I recommend it for travellers who want to experience local atmosphere... more

Like the other reviews, this hotel was setup by our tour operator. Luckily we arrived at 1AM and were going to Abu Simbel in the morning, so we didn't spend more than a few hours there. The rooms were disgusting, dirty and loud. It was a miracle that we were able to get some sleep. I took a shower, but... more

we were booked in here after our local agent told us the Basma was full. We saw two rooms - both small, grubby and one with cracked and filthy shower. Very central : opening on to dirty, noisy back streets. No way 3*. We then called Basma direct - and they did have rooms - which were 4* as we... more

We had a free day to spend in Aswan. We wanted to have a hotel as a base. Our tour company arranged for us to stay at the Cleopatra Hotel. Now, it isn't a bad hotel, really. It was clean. It was in a good location. The staff was very nice and friendly. But, to classify it as a hotel... more

What a dump. The girls were afriad to touch the shower curtain. The AC were broken years ago and the windows had to be left open, then the city noise came in all night.. The room carpet looked like it has never been vacuumed plus it had a bad smell. The breakfast was small and bad. more

This hotel is positioned right by the bazar, so the shopping possibilitys are quite good. It isn't too far down to the Nile corniche aswell. The good things with this hotel: * Close to the shopping and fairly well positioned for the rest aswell. The less good things are: * The rooms are dark and gloomy, the door looks like... more
