I really wanted to love this hotel. The location is fantastic, being beside the Nile and with beautiful views over the river to the islands and to the far bank. And the hotel itself has been beautifully refurbished; our room was modern, spacious and very comfortable. But the service was uniformly appalling. A few examples: The greeting on arrival was... On an impulse to capture the essence of Agatha Christie, we took a taxi from our cruise boat. You arrive at the guarded from entrance then walk through beautiful gardens to get to the main entrance. My only "red carpet walk" but I could already feel how utterly grand the Old Cataract Hotel must have seemed back in the day.... More

My wife and I stayed at the Old Cataract (New Nile Wing) for two nights at the end of a five-day cruise down the Nile from Luxor. It made for a magical end to a great vacation. Everything about the hotel was great -- from breakfast on the terrace of the Old Cataract itself to swimming in the hotel's immaculate... More

View from Terrace is best view of river Nile. Afternoon tea was very pleasant and the gardens lovely to sit in. Surprised they don't make more of the Agatha Christie connection. Worth a visit if not staying there

We went to this hotel to for high tea and see the sun set. Unfortunately the high tea quality was so poor that it was almost couldn't eat! It was such a wast of money as well as food. The hotel 's location is excellent, it's a great place to watch the sunset. Meanwhile the hotel usd to be palace,... More

Stayed here for 2 nights. Originally we were booked into the New Nile Wing but on arrival were upgraded to a Nile suite in the old building. This really made our stay. The room was the biggest we have ever stayed in with a double balcony and a huge bathroom with a bath and a separate monsoon shower and double... More

I spent a couple of days with friends in the Old Cataract in Aswan. It was a calmed and peaceful time within the hotel facility. Safe, nicely furnished, great buffet for breakfast, and the suites combine luxury and comfort.

When we heard of the legend that this was king Farouk's favourite place when he visited Aswan, We thought that if it's good enough for the king of Egypt, it's good enough for us. I fully understand why he LOVED THIS PLACE, it has great character, Charm but mist of all... A WARM FEEL without being tooo pompous. The staff... More
