we enjoyed our stay at the sofitel. the hotel organised a great driver who not only had studied ancient egypt, but was a nice person! (this is very important as taxi's are not an advisable adventure - they are absolute death traps and rip-off merchants!!!) the hotel had a nice pool, with plenty of space, eventhough i concider the sudden... more

Carpet in the rooms was filthy. Experiences with the Hertz taxi drivers were uneven, to say the least, avoid them if you can. Bank had no small bills, which provided much difficulty in a culture where tips are demanded constantly. On the plus side -- food was good, pool area was nice, and the location cant be beat. All in... more

And the price. Other than that, it was super outdated and felt like a two star. Still, would go back there again for the price and location. more

Thank goodness we spent very little time in our room. It was dark even with all 7 of the lamps turned on. To read anything we had to hold the paper/book/receipt directly under one of the lights. The rooms just need to be drastically updated--colors are still harvest gold, avocado green, navy blue--even on the lampshades. Otherwise the hotel was... more

I guess for what we paid for 1 night (£50 GBP) it's not bad value for money overall. At first when we approached the entrance to the hotel, we had the usual 'half baked this appears for show security check'. We were then kept hanging around at reception for quite a while as there were 3 people waiting with only... more

The Sofitel Le Sphinx Hotel, Cairo: 4 Stars (out of 5). Restaurant for lunch/dinner was very good, buffet breakfast was average to good. Pizza was good. Food prices were reasonable. Beds were comfortable. Service: Very Good. Hotel was very clean. Location: almost next to the pyramids. Nice pool. There was a bank in the lobby for exchanging dollars to Egyptian... more

We stayed here with our 2 children (7 & 9) for 2 nights, and like most people that was more than enough to do Cairo bit of our trip round Egypt! We had 2 ajourning rooms which were both fairly modern in look (clean with no issues). However are Air con was leaking water on the floor and did take... more

My wife and I stayed here at the end of a four day cruise of the Nile. We wanted to see the pyramids and experience a bit of Cairo. I read the reviiews and was hesitant to book and at the last minute almost changed hotels. When we arrived we were happy with the exterior of the building. The front... more

good service and amenities, bit of a scramble for sun beds as everyone gets back from tours. Good base for the main attractions The Pyramids and Memphis outside the main chaos of Cairo so not as intimidating. Lovely people on the whole. Tip see inside both Pyramids if you can to compare. If you can only do one , make... more
