Just got back from my second stay at the King Tut. I stayed there for 3 weeks in March of 2009 and I think I know everyone who works there personally. The owner, Atef, is the only guy I allow to book stuff for me in Egypt. He has always had the best crew working for him - from hired... more

During our anniversary trip to Egypt, we had decided to stay at a budget hotel / hostel and came across King Tut's in Cairo thru Trip Advisor. After reading reviews, we booked this place thru Hostelworld.com and received a confirmation from the hostel staff. Even though our twin attached room was small, they were well maintained. Also liked their common... more

They really push you from the minute you step into the door. They wont even let you drop of your bags. The trouble and hassle is not worth it at this place. I also killed two cock roaches in my room. You also may or may not have toilet paper. more

Hi: They serve people cups and towels are washed with cold water and no soap. The service is very bad, too. It is unsafe to stay there and to leave your things at the reception desk. Atef pushes people to buy his tour trips. Only, they care for the issue of money. I do not recommend this place to anyone.... more

We stayed at King Tut's for 2 separate nights in April this year. We had mixed experiences and ended up foregoing our final night and staying somewhere else. The first night my boyfriend and I were in a twin room at the back of the hostel. The room was pretty dirty. By the look of our beds only the fitted... more

Spent three weeks at the King Tut Hostel in Downtown Cairo....great place with a fantastic staff.....no problems whatsoever and Mr. Atef and his crew were a tremendous help with getting adjusted to the chaos of Cairo. We took a number of their tours and they were all fantastic, espeically the Pyramid tour of Saqqara, Memphis, and Giza.....it's a great location... more

Me and my girlfriend stayed at this hostel in January of 2009. We were told to go and sit down in the common room were the owner was. He gave us a sales pitch and showed us a book of satisfied customers ( which are filled out while he is sitting next to you). We reluctantly bought a tour of... more

Excellent location right in centre of downtown. Good variety of restaurants in the area, not far from metro/public transport. Average breakfast. Note that rooms don't get cleaned during your stay, all staff smoked inside so always a foul odor- not good. Large enough rooms, bathrooms average, traffic noise not too bad - accept it, it's Cairo. Staff friendly and helpful... more

The King Tut Hostel was recommended to us by the friend of a friend, and I contacted Atef directly to set up our two-week trip to Egypt. 50% had to be paid via Western Union before we arrived, and we had no receipt other than e-mail traffic, so I was a little nervous about that. It all worked out fine,... more

I was very happy with this hotel. After reading reviews of hotels that were way more expensive -- and still said that they had stuff stolen, I was relieved to find a place that didn't have any mention of robberies etc... We had nothing stolen while here - and felt very safe. As others mentioned, we did get asked about... more
