The hotel is in a quiet area of the city with a lot of green and embassies nearby. Good restaurant, coffee bar and bookshop within walking distance. The hotel is in a twenties apartment building with original elevators (you could make a fantastic luxury hotel in the building!). Reception friendly. 10% discount with Footprint Guidebook on very reasonable rates. Breakfast... more

This hotel had a/c which is a must in Cairo. It is located in Zamelek which is a really nice suburb of Cairo. We could walk over the Nile into downtown Cairo (about 30 mins) but there were enough nice restaurants around our hotel. The staff were great and they even stored some luggage for us. more

Stayed in this hotel for four days with my wife and my daughter. The location of the hotel, just off the saray 26th july,is excellent. The ammenities are reasonably good considering the rates offered-just about $15 per person per day.Rooms and toilets are clean.I only wish the shower space was a bit bigger. The staff and specially the manager Mr Mahmood were very freindly... more

We recently stayed at The Mayfair Hotel in Zamalek, Cairo at the beginning and end of our 5 week trip around Egypt and the Middle East. We chose the Mayfair because we thought the island of Zamalek would provide us with an escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Cairo and this certainly was the case. On our first... more

We selected this hotel using Rough Guides which offers a discount for its readers (20% I think). When we checked in, we forgot to mention it but remembered later about it and asked if it were possible to get a refund. By the way, we were also asked to pay in advance for our 3 night stay when we checked... more

I recently stayed here again for 2 nights. I think I was the first person to review this hotel. This time our experience was not so good; our first night was in an allegedly double room, but it was, frankly, tiny. (And 3 floors up in a sort of annexe.) We were kept awake by the sound of amarous cats... more

My Egyptian friend booked this hotel for me when the original hotel I booked failed to deliver the room they promised. He was taken to see the room I was to get and liked it so booked it for me. When I got there I found a very recently redecorated room with private shower, mini fridge, TV and comfortable bed.... more

This is the best value we have had so far. When we stayed our triple was only 47 USD. In our room we had a fridge, 3 comfortable beds, a balcony, cable TV, and a dresser. The bathroom we had was not the nicest but we always had hot water. Rooms are cleaned every day and breakfast (bread and jam)... more

I had a great experience staying at the Mayfair. I was there while on a study abroad trip with a group of about 30 other students. We lived in the hotel for over a month. The staff was great. I felt completely safe the entire time. I saw that other reviewers complained about the young men in the lobby area-... more
