I stayed at Pension Roma in October 08.I just loved my stay there! The staff was very helpful whatever the matter, the room and (shared) bathroom perfectly clean. The hotel is located downtown, in an old charming building. It is within walking distance from Egyptian Antiquities Museum, and from a metro station (safe and cheap way to see Cairo!) I liked the... more

Everything (well almost) in the pension is old but not in a negative sense. It gives the hotel a charming feeling of history - almost as if nothing has been changed for 20 years? 40 years? 60 years? I loved the ancient elevator, except when people forgot to close the doors correctly. Roma is situated on the fourth and fifth... more

Had to leave Pension Roma after two nights because of severe mosquito problem. One of the windows in our room did not close. Informed management immediately upon check-in. Used hostel provided bug repellant (that should tell you something) and covered myself in DEET. Did not work and the window was never fixed. Days later we’re still in pain from the... more

Not much character in our room. The place was clean overall; very safe; no loud noises except the mosque, and centrally located. We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights in Feb 09 and had a double room with a shower. The Shower was huge, but the actual bathing area was tiny, with the rest just being wasted space. And yes,... more

This is a wonderful place to stay. It's the Lonely Planet pick for budget hotels and I can see why. Very clean rooms, staff is attentive and very friendly (they don't push you to take tours, but are always willing to give advise and schedule a taxi if you need one). The rooms are all shared bath but there was... more

August in Cairo. Forgot to ask for air con. You do the math. The rooms are OK. The street noise, even at 3am, is unbearable. And don't take any offers from the staff to set up a car for you for the day to go see the pyramids - you will get ripped off for a lot of $. more

Right in downtown Cairo, at the 4th floor of a building, this is a great choice if you don't want to spend too much and still have a nice place to stay, in a great location, with a good atmosphere. It looks quite old fashion, with really high sealing and furniture that will make you feel you are staying at... more

We only stayed for one night at the Pension Roma, but we wish we stayed there the other nights as well instead of the Ramses Hilton! We loved the location of the hotel - it has great restaurants around, including a delicious ice cream / pastry shop. We followed the stream of people with cups of ice cream to the... more

Pension Roma left us with mixed feelings. The agreed room rate turn out to be 25% higher when we checked out, the 'friendly staff' were not around! But worse was the taxidriver the hotel booked for us: Mr. Naser Aly ([-]). Pension Roma uses him all the time. he's a tourist trap: lasy and give wrong info: he tells roads... more

The Pension Roma Hotel is awesome! It is in a nice open alley way and on the 5th floor of a nice building. There are great views of the city streets. The rooms have tall ceilings, great furniture, and clean bathrooms. The owners and employees are great! It is only a 20 minute walk to the River Nile and the... more
