This is my regular hotel when I come to Egypt for archaeological field work each year. It is classic, comfortable, has a wonderful bar and the staff are wonderful. This year I attended a conference for a week and stayed the whole time here. As others have noted, the owner Wafeeq checks with all the guest individually to ensure they... More

This hotel is simply incredible. You will not get service at the big chain hotels like you get at The Windsor. The hotel has a lot of charm and character. The service is wonderful and the staff are lovely. The owner shows up and introduces himself, chats with the guests and makes sure you have everything you need. We'd lost... More

Don't bother with the big chain hotels: this is the place to stay in Cairo. Historic, family-business hotel within easy walking distance of downtown attractions and Islamic Cairo. The owner actually shows up on a daily basis and chats with guests! This place has serious atmosphere--you can practically feel what it was like to be here in the early 1900s,... More

When we first arrived to Cairo, we stayed at a popular hotel chain in Zamalek. It was nice, but in hindsight, the biggest mistake of the trip was not staying at The Windsor the whole time. Such a personable staff--Samir was wonderful and so helpful when we wanted to go shopping and take a felucca on the Nile later. We... More

As its name suggests, the Windsor offers a charming 1930s style English hotel experience, right in the heart of downtown Cairo. The bar/lounge area looks exactly like the officers' club that it once was. The spacious and high-ceilinged bedrooms are furnished in the country house shabby-chic style. The owner of the hotel is an exceptionally charming gentleman who speaks perfect... More

There's a lot of charm in this hotel. Samir at the front desk was very accommodating and gave us a lot of tips about the city. (Sidenote: there's some good local shopping just nearby that is very cheap!). He also said he'd be happy to arrange tours for us. I'd definitely recommend these for a first-time visitor to Cairo. The... More

I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say this is the best hotel I've ever stayed in. The staff are fantastic, the ambience is second to none and it's perfectly placed for sightseeing around the city. The Metro is two minutes away on foot. Come here!

It's In the heart of downtown Cairo and a favourite of many travellers to Egypt. If you wish to experience the hustle and bustle that depicts Cairo, as well as a piece of Cairo’s history, then this is a great place to stay. It is an easy walk or taxi ride to most of the sights. The staff are warm... More

It calls itself "Faded Grandeur". It certainly is faded. The bedcovers were filthy. There was short curly hairs in the soap. Out of our 3 rooms, ours had the only shower that had any pressure or hot water. The beds are from the 1950's and not at all comfortable. The single glazed windows look out onto rubbish heaps and do... More

Comfortable beds, with good water pressure in showers, nice area around hotel, very safe with good security. Great bar with interesting staff who speak good English and appreciate people who use a little arabic. Samir is the guide and tour advisor and he can arrange anything quickly and cheaply, and honestly.
