The hotel is a bit "tired," some of the carpeting needs repair, the sheets are not 600 thread count Egyptian cotton, but all in all a comfortable place. My room was average in furnishings but comfortably large and had a balcony overlooking the Nile which was very nice. The TV is old but works. The bathroom was modern and quite... More

Our party of five (four adults and one chlid) stayed in the Shepheard Hotel during a three-week journey through the Middle East: U.A.E., Egypt, Jordan and Turkey. We had paid a bit extra, in the booking, for a guarantee of Nile view rooms on an upper floor. Yes, the hotel is a bit "tired" looking, but having watching the sun... More

I am an Egyptology and history buff and was dying to stay in the famed historic Shepheard Hotel. From its website, I learned the original burned but that it was rebuilt in classic style. Well, there is NOTHING at all in this hotel that is reminiscent of the older hotel. The exterior looks like a bank building; the interior is... More

I was in Cairo when I had my purse stolen.. all my money.. credit cards..bank cards..passport..ect. as this can happen anywhere in the world.. It was my luck to have it happen to me. I was alone and I was in Garden City,Cairo..walking around trying to figure out what to do? It was getting dark and I came across the... More

Rooms comfortable and large though misssing drink making facilities. Make sure you get a room with a view as inside courtyard views are dire.My room had problems with hot water supply - took 45 mins to run a bath. Complaints were ignored.Breakfasts good but some food at dinner time inedible. Service very slow despite very few in dining room. Staff... More

My room was very old, seems original used by Napoleon, all areas are full of smoke and full armed soldiers (is it necesary into the hotel?). Internet is very bad. At check out they try to include food and beverages no requested. I wonder that is a good option for Egyptians but very away of hotel ISO standards. More

Impressive public area, high ceilings & well looked after - brass work gleaming. Bedrooms are starting to get a little shabby but a good size & very clean as with the bathroom. No safe in bedroom. Breakfast very good - lots of choice buffet style (if you want tea ask for a pot), lovely restaurant overlooking the Nile. ATM in... More

My friends and I recently stayed for 4 nights at this hotel. The rooms are very big and the location is great. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony checking out what was happening down below in the traffic. The free wifi in the lobby and coffee shop was great! It's not a modern hotel but we loved the authenticy of... More
