I started feel like my second home here already. It’s been over 10 years I stay at Somerset Palace every time I visit Seoul. The location is great, staffs are really friendly and professional. WiFi is offered for free, a parking space and a safe in the room. The room, small kitchen area, bathroom are well maintained and always clean.... More

Stayed at the Somerset for the third time, the main reason for my returning being the hotel's excellent location. The airport shuttle bus takes about 40 minutes from Incheon to Anguk Station, from there it is a mere five minutes walk to the Somerset. Quite a few attractions (e.g. Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon, Insadong) are within short walking distance. The hotel itself... More

We stayed in the deluxe two-bedroom apartment for about five days, and there were two ladies and one gentleman in our group so the 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom set-up was very much a luxury for us. The amenities were nothing short of luxurious: 1.) The beds were very comfortable to sleep in, and both bedrooms were equipped with blackout... More

We stayed in the executive 2 bedroom apartment which comes with 2 bathrooms, a large dining and seating hall, a fully equiped kitchen with all the required utensils, rice cooker, toaster, stove, a large fridge and a washer/dryer. A bliss for a vegetarian family needing a good meal cooked up at night. Breakfast was simple but fulfilling with Western choices... More

We have stayed in this hotel 3 times thus far, the last one in February 2015, during Seollal. They have never disappointed us so far. The only slight gripe that we have is that they do not have English cartoons available. This seems strange as there are many expats staying there for long term as well. Anyway, besides this its... We have stayed there several times before and enjoyed it, nice rooms, good service. Our stay last year was not so. Booked for 2 nights and then 3 more a week later. The first stay was spoiled by the noise ie no sleep, we could here the guests above us walking around all night and the noise from the lifts... More

I booked three nights at Somerset Palace Hotel based on excellent reviews. It turned out it was a complete mistake and I still do not understand how this hotel earned 4 star rating. Simply, you cannot call this place a hotel - the level of service and amenities are at the level of Motel 6. They do not provide a... More

My taxi driver had absolutely no idea how to get here- it was helpful to give him the phone number and get the hotel staff to help him out. Initially, that can be concerning since it was only a 15 minute drive away and clearly he'd never taken anyone here- ultimately though, my concerns were for naught. The taxi driver... More

Staying in Gwanghwamun / Jongno

Neighborhood Profile
Gwanghwamun / Jongno
If Gwanghwamun is the unofficial living room of Seoul, Jongno is the main hallway connecting some of Seoul’s most important historic sites and neighborhoods. Being one of Seoul’s oldest neighborhoods, the area is rich with history and culture in its palaces, shrines, and temples. Stand in the center of Gwanghwamun Square with Gyeongbokgung Palace and Mt. Bugak in front of you, King Sejong the Great statue behind you, and modern office buildings encircling you—it’s one of the best ways to experience both past and present Seoul in one spot. The main street of Jongno is mostly dotted with restaurants and cafes, but explore deeper within its intricate alleys to pass decades-old restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, and pojangmachas (tents that open at night for quick bites and drinks) and life seems to run just as it did a decade or two ago. Don’t forget to stop at Gwangjang Market, Korea’s oldest traditional market, where it’s just as fun to explore as it is to eat the affordable market dishes that locals have been enjoying since the market first opened in 1905. For a break from urban life, walk along the restored Cheonggyecheon Stream that runs parallel to Jongno for a moment of natural refuge in metropolitan Seoul.
