We visited with friend and chose the hotel by location (very near the metro stop) and cheap price. Toiletries were supplied as well as free water and kettle (no coffee though). We didn't have window which saved us a few wons per night. The room was clean and air conditioning functioning. We had tv with English channels. Breakfast was basic... More

I think they have recently renovated, perhaps, as it is not that bad, old & dirty as some of the comments/reviews. So after all we kind of enjoyed our stay there ... anyway, we don't expect much from a 3stars hotel. The room is clean and with basic essentials supplied, we find it rather comfy, even though it is a... More

My family and I stayed for 6 days and 5 nights with this hotel. Newly renovated hotel room (with bath tub). Its clean. All front desk staff are super nice! Also, they allowed us to check-in early for free!!! Although the location of the hotel is near hardware stores but no biggie since it is near the subway (only 5... More

We were on a stop over with a connecting overnight at Seoul airport. The hotel was dingy, the rooms basic and the hotel had the feel of a place that couples would come to share entertainment rather as a proper hotel. Definitely to be avoided.

Just been there. It's very well located, less that 5 minute walk to metro stations 1, 3, 5; 10 minutes walk to city Hall and Gwanghwamun. Nice staff but, sadly, It's a very poor 2-star hotel. No wifi in bedrooms. Just available at hall. Business centre is a wrecked store room with a pc. It might have had 3 stars... More

It is situated very nearby to Jongno-Sam(3)-Ga Station. Just take exit 13, turn left and walk straight down to one end of the road just before the stream and you'll see Central Hotel. The double bed is very small, the lift has a bad smell, especially at end of day and even the room towel has a bad smell. The... More

Overall this is not a bad hotel. The rooms are pretty small. Bathroom was adequate. They will charge for any consumables in the room/bathroom like soap, toothpastes (except for toilet roll). Fortunately, they provide free drinking water in the form of a dispenser outside the rooms every floor. As we were traveling a lot during the day, the hotel served... More

While this is no luxury hotel, if you are looking for a great value in a great location, then the Central will work for you. I booked this hotel online through Asia Hotels.com. for $53 per night including tax. The location is in Chongro 3, the airport bus and subway are a quick 5 minute walk. Itawon is a 15... More

Staying in Gwanghwamun / Jongno

Neighborhood Profile
Gwanghwamun / Jongno
If Gwanghwamun is the unofficial living room of Seoul, Jongno is the main hallway connecting some of Seoul’s most important historic sites and neighborhoods. Being one of Seoul’s oldest neighborhoods, the area is rich with history and culture in its palaces, shrines, and temples. Stand in the center of Gwanghwamun Square with Gyeongbokgung Palace and Mt. Bugak in front of you, King Sejong the Great statue behind you, and modern office buildings encircling you—it’s one of the best ways to experience both past and present Seoul in one spot. The main street of Jongno is mostly dotted with restaurants and cafes, but explore deeper within its intricate alleys to pass decades-old restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, and pojangmachas (tents that open at night for quick bites and drinks) and life seems to run just as it did a decade or two ago. Don’t forget to stop at Gwangjang Market, Korea’s oldest traditional market, where it’s just as fun to explore as it is to eat the affordable market dishes that locals have been enjoying since the market first opened in 1905. For a break from urban life, walk along the restored Cheonggyecheon Stream that runs parallel to Jongno for a moment of natural refuge in metropolitan Seoul.
