We were very fortunate to have stayed in the GV Residence for 14 days, during our recent trip to Korea. Before our visit we were unfamiliar with Seoul, and Itaewon in particular, and we selected the GV, knowing little about it. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is located in Itaewon, Seoul's international district, with its diverse shopping, food, culture,... More

1. After many hours travelling by public transport, we had to pull our luggage up a hill to get to hotel. 2. There were no lifts. Our room was on thr 4th floor. 3. If you smoke, do it outside. So in the winter cold, my husband had to suit up just to get down to get a puff. And... More

Overall this was a great stay. It is a small hotel with no elevator, so get used to stairs. The property is clean and well cared for, but some of the furniture needs replacing. The couch in our room had permanent indentations in it. The beds were much more comfortable than any other place we had stayed before in Seoul... More

The room we had was super small! No kitchenette or washing machine. Was totally disappointed. The bathroom was so tiny that we had to stand in front of the vanity mirror to have a shower. On the plus side, the staff are really friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic. It's so easy to get to anywhere. The tiny hill... More

Very good location to enjoy Seoul night life, restaurants bars and metro. Handy staff clean room and fair qualità price. Keep using this solution very time i am over Seoul.....the only negative factor it is located over a bill therefore a bit of a walk on a deep slope :)

This is a Japanese tourist type hotel/motel if you get the basic room which was expensive. It is in a prime location, there is no denying that fact at all. The room was really small and it was a chore just using the bathroom. It's your choice but choose wisely.

Room: We had the twin room, so it was rather small. Our toilet was a bit cramped for our liking. But overall, the room and toilet was clean. Towels are changed daily. The bed is comfortable for sleep. We actually like coming back after a day of activities. Fridge and boiler are provided too. You have to leave your shoes... More

My husband and I stayed at GV Residence when President Obama was visiting Seoul. There were no available rooms at the US military lodge. The positives about this hotel were that it was clean and it has a fantastic location! It is in Itaewon, right behind Vatos. Plus it is walking distance to Yongsan Army post. The negative is that... Booked GV Residence for a week. Had the room with kitchen and washer/dryer. Excellent location but on a hilly slope so not so conducive for elderly travellers. Place is clean and well-maintained. No lifts so be prepared to carry your luggage. Reception is welcoming and courteous. Breakfast is good and has a medium spread of choice. Location-wise good. 10 mins... More

We had booked to stay at the GV Residence for 7 nights of our 18 day stay in Korea and ended up by staying there for the whole trip. It was convenient to every thing we wanted subway, shopping, places to eat supermarket, money machine for international cards. We found it easy to get around Seoul from here. There was... More

Staying in Itaewon

Neighborhood Profile
Itaewon
Neighboring the immense Yongsan American Garrison, Itaewon was once shunned by locals as a seedy, red light district. But within the past few years, Itaewon and its surrounding neighborhoods such as Kyunglidan and Haebangchong have undergone a major revival to quickly become one of Seoul’s hottest areas. Here, trendy international restaurants dot the area alongside hip lounge bars and some of Seoul’s hottest club venues. After dark, Itaewon comes into its own as one of Seoul’s top party scenes. The crowd is a fascinating patchwork of all backgrounds and identities, including a small but thriving Muslim community (centered on Korea’s sole mosque), the LGBT community (with a string of popular bars and clubs), and a wide range of ethnicities and cultures scattered around. Those seeking a quiet respite should head towards the eastern end, in Hannam-dong, which not only has one of Korea’s best art museums, the Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, but plenty of mid-range to upscale restaurants and cafes.
