Good central location in an old part of Seoul, lots of narrow lanes with restaurants frequented by locals at your doorstep. Apple has two buildings and I stayed in the back building, which was quiet enough. Front door did not always lock shut behind you. Booked DMZ tour at the front desk. Thanks especially to Linsey and Lim for hospitality... More

This is the sister hostel of the famous Banana Backpackers. Located at the commercial street of Donhwamun-ro, this guesthouse boasts of family rooms ideal for big groups. They have no curfew so you can party all night and still be safe at the same time.

The hotel was just 5 minute walking away from the subway station. The guy at the front office was friendly and helpful. The price was reasonable. There were travel books available for travellers to borrow. I loved it here and would recommend this hotel to anyone :)

The staff had helped me a lot-- making this trip convenient and impressive. I asked so many questions and the answerd me nicely and clearly. No curfews-- you can come back whenever you want. The location is near the subway station. Really convenient to travel.

All the staffs are nice and friendly. I can feel warm there. The room is not nice. Everything is fine there but it will be better if there is the elevator because the baggages are too heavy to carry. It was nice to stay here.

We always choose to stay here in Apple Backpackers since it's location is very convenient. Nearest subway is 3 minute walk - Jong-no 3 ga station - lines 1,3,5 3 stations - 1 transfer away from MyeongDong which is where we go every night. Just a walking distance from Insadong and hostel is nearby Money Changers who offer good rates.... More

Staying in Gwanghwamun / Jongno

Neighborhood Profile
Gwanghwamun / Jongno
If Gwanghwamun is the unofficial living room of Seoul, Jongno is the main hallway connecting some of Seoul’s most important historic sites and neighborhoods. Being one of Seoul’s oldest neighborhoods, the area is rich with history and culture in its palaces, shrines, and temples. Stand in the center of Gwanghwamun Square with Gyeongbokgung Palace and Mt. Bugak in front of you, King Sejong the Great statue behind you, and modern office buildings encircling you—it’s one of the best ways to experience both past and present Seoul in one spot. The main street of Jongno is mostly dotted with restaurants and cafes, but explore deeper within its intricate alleys to pass decades-old restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, and pojangmachas (tents that open at night for quick bites and drinks) and life seems to run just as it did a decade or two ago. Don’t forget to stop at Gwangjang Market, Korea’s oldest traditional market, where it’s just as fun to explore as it is to eat the affordable market dishes that locals have been enjoying since the market first opened in 1905. For a break from urban life, walk along the restored Cheonggyecheon Stream that runs parallel to Jongno for a moment of natural refuge in metropolitan Seoul.
