The cost of the rooms is not expensive, and the rooms/ bathrooms are clean and well kept. The staff is also extremely friendly. I rated a 4, however, because it took me almost 90 minutes to locate it!

I stayed here for 5 days when I was travelling in Seoul with 3 other friends. Location is not bad in that it's Hongdae which is quite a convenient place to go to other tourist attractions in Seoul from. However, it's quite a walking distance away from the subway station and you might have a bit of a hard time... More

Had an awesome stay at Pencil. Stayed for 9 nights with two other friends in a family room of 4 last October 2013. 1. Location- The hostel's location was great. Place was safe and quiet since it was just far enough from the party places in Hongdae but near enough that you could easily access restaurants and other places to... More

The hostel was easy enough to locate with the provided directions. Our room was on the fourth floor and with so much shopping stashed in our luggage, the climb on the narrow steps was agonizing. Facilities-wise, it was great as we had a washing machine, stove and microwave in the room. You can pay a deposit to bring up pots... More

Cleaness: dun feel like they provide the cleaning service. Under the bed, it's dusty. Location: nothing there but 15minutes walk from Hongik Univ station which i find it kinda long diatance after sightseeing n shopping. Going to exit 9 of Hongik Univ is different world. It's a lot more crowded. Service: after booking the hotel, they send us an email... More

Pencil Hostel 2 has the friendliest and most helpful staff (Jin!), the rooms and bathrooms are clean, spacious, air-conditioned, and even have kitchen appliances, a big fridge/freezer, and a washing machine. I've stayed here several times and will continue to do so when I'm in Seoul. The hostel is a close walk from the Hongik University station which is on... More

7 minutes walking from Hongik University Station Exit #2 and near Hongdae Street which is very popular with design shops, hundred of cafes, bar, restaurants & street performances from underground musicians (indie band). Apartment type room complete with washing machine, electric stove, refrigerator & microwave. Good value for money. Recommended! :)

Staying in Hongdae

Neighborhood Profile
Hongdae
Carefree enthusiasm is everywhere in this energetic neighborhood centered on Hongik University, Korea’s top art school. From its assortment of murals to the occasional amateur street performances, creativity and expression make up the wild and beating heart of vibrant Hongdae. At the Free and Hope Market (weekends at the Hongdae Children’s Playground) you'll find one of Seoul’s most popular handmade and creative markets drawing consistent crowds. At Hongdae, there’s never a shortage of things to do and see; food and drink options are nearly endless as are shops and noraebang (karaoke) rooms. Hongdae is also one of Seoul’s top party and club scenes catering to a younger demographic; if a packed club isn’t your scene, you'll also find a range of music venues and bars offering live music in all genres. Although Hongdae has lost much of its unique appeal and undergone rapid commercialization in recent years, be sure to explore Hongdae’s edges in areas such as Sangsu-dong and Yeonnam-dong where Hongdae’s fiercely independent streak still runs freely.
