The place was nice and it brought us back to the ancient Korea with traditional architecture as well as the tatami (with heat because it was winter!). Host is nice and breakfast is great. If you wanna try a traditional Korean style, it would be your one of your best choice. p.s. You may also hang around. There are a... More

We enjoyed a lovely two-night stay at Kundaemunjip Hanok guesthouse. The staff was very nice, provided us with maps, and gracefully forgave us for oversleeping breakfast the second morning! The location is fantastic. You are right in the heart of the historic and hip Bukchon/Jongno-gu district, and a beautiful walk down Insadong-gil to the Cheong-gye river walk and urban downtown... I was a little nervous about staying in a guesthouse without all the services of a hotel, but in the end, we were so glad we did. The traditional Korean hanok gave us the feeling of being in an authentic home in a residential area, but also provided modern conveniences like a private bathrooms and free wi-fi. The location was... More

If you are interested to stay in a hanok, and looking for a different and uniquely Korean experience, but still want many of the luxuries you'll find at similarly priced hotels, then you should seriously consider KunDaeMunJip. The location is excellent for exploring many of Seoul's most quaint and atmospherics neighborhoods, and the grounds at the hanok are spectacular to... More

Glad we chose this property in the end. Cosy place with 5 rooms and delicious breakfast. Our first time trying a hanok stay and will do it again. Owners are super friendly and speak great English. The room we had, 104, could fit all 4 of us comfortably. The mattresses were really comfortable (was a bit worried that they might... More

The building is charming and the hosts were kind enough to wait up for me when my flight was delayed, but except for my first few moments at Kundaemunjip, I found that this place had little to recommend itself. The rooms offer zero privacy. Every noise, every cleared throat, every blown nose, every early morning phone call and every whining... More

My family & I (4 of us) stayed with KunDaeMunJip for 2 nights in Sep 2012, in room 5. We love the traditional feel (especially after watching all the korean dramas) & lovely compound. Our room is big enough (to open 3 big luggage & still have space to walk around) & clean. 2 of us slept on the bed... More

First of all if you are looking for very original traditional Korean house you may be disappointed. It's has traditional design but mixed with modern material like glass wall or cement path and has air cond. The bathroom is also modernized and has hot water also hair dryer and basic amenity kit. I stayed in a double room just for... More

It was our family's first trip to Korea with an 8-year old kid so we wanted to try traditional Hanok stay for 2 nights. We chose Kundaemunjip based on the reviews on Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed! The hosts (Nana and Song) are very friendly and helpful and they speak excellent English. The Hanok is really well maintained,... More

We wanted to experience a traditional hanok so we booked a room for 1 night (and stayed at a regular hotel thereafter) - we weren't too sure about sleeping on the floor, but gotta experience it once right? The ladies in charge of the place were friendly and helpful, and very fluent in English. We had a welcome tea, which... More

Staying in Samcheongdong / Bukchon

Neighborhood Profile
Samcheongdong / Bukchon
This historic neighborhood was traditionally home to Seoul’s middle and upper-classes. Now it’s most famed for its clusters of beautiful, traditional Korean homes (called hanok), many of which are found in Bukchon. Many of these homes have now been converted into restaurants, cafes, shops, and even guesthouses, and their unique architecture offers a look at Korea’s traditional beauty. Samcheongdong’s main and side streets attract locals and tourists alike for their quaint and charming scenery, while the Blue House (Cheong Wa Dae) serves as the residence for South Korea’s president. Art fans will love exploring the many independent and private art galleries in the area.
